Lol hasnt the esrb been useless ever since it was created ( either giving games that at best deserved a T rating getting a m rating while games that got a t rating ending having ..... a bit of.... questionable content in them also if you end up getting corrupted by FUCKING VIDEO GAMES then maybe thats the sign you're mentally ill also the ESRB was literally made because of a game thats at best E10+ ( night trap )
Nobody said it was perfect, it's definitely not, but a system like that is necessary (just a better one).

and there is the whole shitfest with rating boards varying wildly between countries either Mature rated titles being 16+ in some countries and 21+ in other countries
Lmao who cares what the Arab ESRB looks like. "Contains depictions of wives over 7."

and yeah lol no 12 year old is wait till their old enough to buy liquor to play m rated titles also what about those thinly veiled slot machines disguised as loot boxes in mobile titles for kids being given a E rating
What kind of parent gives their kid so much freedom and money that they can just go out or online any time with enough money to buy anything, and then use what they bought without supervision? Oh, yeah. Bad parents. ESRB isn't a substitute for parenting, it's intended as a tool for them.

Microtransactions are trash but who's the one giving little Timmy unfettered access to their credit card? EA?

I don't know about the ESRB, but PEGI has been mostly useless simply because parents ignore it.

Though I do agree it's dumb that games with fictional gambling (like Fallout New Vegas) get a rating bump, but games with real money gambling don't. At least PEGI added an "In-game purchases" sticker, which is better than nothing.
ESRB can't put a gun to parents' heads, it's their choice to ignore it. Ideally, with a better system in place, it'd be illegal to give them something like Manhunt. Society rightly identifies pornography as unacceptable material for minors, violence should be treated similarly.

As for things like depictions of gambling, I don't know. Pokemon Yellow didn't turn me into a casino junkie, but maybe it's better to err on the side of caution and rate gambling up too.

Mary Skelter 2 is censored on Steam by Ghostlight, so if you want the full experience you're only left with the choices to buy it on Switch (regardless of the region) or the japanese PS4 version (which was released before SIE enabled the new content guidelines).

Thing with manhunt and why it got so much notoriety was because of how real the kills were this isnt mortal combat where the fatalites are so cartoonishly gorey that kids that arent mentally ill can obivously know its fake where as manhunt i can see how parents are more worried about little timmy playing manhunt over mortal kombat and tbh i dont know about the whole treating DA VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES the same as pornos i mean there is alot of people who came out normal where as pornos resulted in people either becoming full blown degenrates or troons so in short i think violent video games shouldn't be treated the same as pornos ( though if you let your kids play shit like silent hill dont be surprised that timmy is scared of sleeping during the night )

Heard somewhere that it was apparently out of the developer's hands, I can't remember who they said it was but considering they had no problems keeping the game intact for the original PC release it wouldn't surprise me.
Genshin Impact was the latest game to possibly come under censorship

The case for censorship was due to the new costume choices that were originally developed as DLC for the mobile game:

Now, however, it seems that this will be permanent:

Though, the real surprise for this is that Genshin Impact will be the one to have to succumb under their own country’s version of tight censorship laws that change entertainment entirely to fit the version of China’s own government.
They barely changed anything at all here, what even was the point? The outfits are suddenly a problem despite being on the CN server for over a year?

Porn is almost certainly worse, but I don't think there's a reason to condone violence just because it's the lesser of two evils.

There's different degrees of violence, Mortal Kombat may not be as bad as Manhunt, Punisher, Saw, and other particularly "realistically" violent games, I still don't think it's good for kids to see people violently destroyed just because it's not possible in the exact way depicted.

From reading the Steam forums, Ghostlight has been caught lying before about who was responsible for incidents like this.

The Mary Skelter games are not even that good by Dungeon Crawler standards.

If you're on PC you have a far larger pool where better examples of the genre exist. There's a reason why the series wound up being cut and it was due to nobody buying them. At most they're below average games with poor dungeon design and annoying encounter rates. You would be better off playing stuff like Stranger in Sword City or even go back to Legend of Grimrock for a better experience.

It is still a panty quest during a time when it feels like sfw lewd content for games getting less accessible. With the whole shit involving Genshin and how instead of pandering to coomers is going the opposite direction. Times are changing and not for the better.

Coomers have never really been an acceptable group to cater towards especially long term because they wind up alienating everyone else. It's less than things are going in the opposite direction and that this has usually been the norm for decades. They thought an aberration was a new normal.

Were people seriously not expecting China to impose their own content measures? They're a totalitarian government it's what they've always done. Controlling the media and putting up a front is part of any single party system run by a dictator.

that's bs and you know it. troons and degenerates are a societal symptom, not an effect of widespread porn. for starters, anyone growing up before the internet already had plenty of access to porn if someone wanted to, you also always had your degenerates, they didn't just magically appear once everybody had broadband internet. all the internet does is make it easier to congregate and highlight those groups more. there's also confirmation bias, just because twitch and onlyfans are full of thots and there are furries everywhere doesn't mean that's a objective representation of the internet at large - might as well argue twitter and facebook reflect society when we know it doesn't.
violence has been accessible for far longer, and we didn't turn into a bunch of murderhobos at some point either.

what matters is the context and how it's explained. kids can handle stuff like violence and sex if someone takes the time to make them understand it properly - but of course that's much easier said than done, least of all requires good parenting.
this whole "omg think of the children they are poor innocent babies till they hit the age of 18" is for a large part an american export, assuming kids are dumb till they suddenly aren't. that doesn't mean you should show them saw or scat porn at 6, but coddling them till the law thinks they're ready for it is even dumber; that's why usually age restrictions aren't legally enforced since it is and should be responsibility of their parents (since they are the ones who know their kids best). if you really wanted to fix that you'd need to stop dumb and unfit people from breeding, and good luck with that.

Even if you're right, just because someone "can" handle something doesn't necessarily mean that they shouldbe exposed to it, whether an assumedly well-meaning parent believes so or not.

The joys of publishing VNs on Steam, what else is new? Whole VN subreddit always have some news of a long length VN getting rejected and getting a Steam publishing is important for SEAniggers because of regional pricing.

This should gives a bit more of context, from reddit.

It also explains why checking the steam page, game screenshots showing that is her default outfit.

From localization team twitter. Not only "ageing up" the setting but also removal of R18 contents, just because all age version is better for artistic vision.
(Edit: Technically, it's a love story between high school student and teacher being unacceptable, so making it college/uni instead. Even though, it can clearly be seen the school design is typical Japan/anime high school.)

Feels like this Meru person has been appearing time to time with any kind of localization drama.

He's butt buddies with Pete Davison. But given Steam has not treat VN devs well despite being a big market for a shrinking industry I am not surprised Lapchian took this move to avoid the same struggles Alicesoft and other VN devs deal with. Now they decided that it was easier to just cut losses in homes of going legit instead of being stuck in the stagnant R18 VN market and I think it's honestly a dumb move

I stand with the coomers because covering up women for the "feminism and realism" is retarded and problematic™

I don't even want lewd outfits, I want cute shit like this:

To be entirely fair, even stuff like Dragonlance depicted it's women as being fully covered most of the time and that predates most types of 3d graphics.

There's a sizable precedent for having women wearing non-revealing clothes in fantasy and other genres without any type of existence of a social movement pressuring it.

In general VNs reputation for being shovelware has been hurting them. Microsoft also purged a bunch off the Xbox platform and the Windows Store awhile back. They're at a point where they're going to have to evolve gameplay mechanics or this will continue to happen. Westerners now make up the majority of anime related purchases. Stuff for weebs doesn't even make it in Japan anymore and they are heavily heavily reliant on sales from outside Japan (hell most anime isn't even made in Japan anymore and most of it is outsourced to Korea or China and even Korea is targeting western countries as well). There's also been further buyouts like what happened with Sentai filmworks and they were primarily a niche anime publisher who also dabbled in VNs. The audience for anime and anime related games is effectively way more diverse than it was even a decade ago.

Places like America this is already the norm, America has always funded localizations which meant anime related stuff has always been far more competitive and it's why shows like St. Seya failed to take root in the US compared to the rest of the world because other shows of similar genres tried and failed like Ronin Warriors. But other countries had no such access which is why SS became popular in European countries and South America. Hell the lack of anime in Europe is why countries like France and Italy wound up developing their own version of it when it came to animation.

But now more western nations have wider access to anime than ever before and they've become dominant.

This is weird because they didn't do anything to change Way of the Samurai 4's night crawling. Then again, that was quite a long time ago and I think Ghostlight hired anti-fun people since. The kind that think fun is a bad word and one should be delivering experiences like listening to dogs catch on fire.
I'll never get over what an absolute piece of shit Druckmann is. Any functional company would instantly fire anyone who said that stupid-ass shit. It's like if you hired a chef for your restaurant and he said he was literally just going to take a shit on a plate and serve it to you because "we don't use the word delicious here."
