Has these people never heard of the euphemism treadmill? Even if they somehow get rid of the word "slut" out of discourse (e.g. look at what has happened to 'r*tard'), equivalent words like (e-)thot are going to rise in their place. Because like being retarded, being a whore is never going to be a good thing.

Also, a key takeway from the stories of many lolcows documented here on this site is how frequently their moralizing is a cover for baser material motivations. So nothing different here.

#SlutStreamDay will be taking over Twitch in an effort to combat online harassment of female gamers

Twitch streamers are joining forces with online female gamers on Tuesday for "SlutStream", a day devoted to taking power back from the word "slut."

On Tuesday, female Twitch streamers are raising awareness of the online harassment female gamers facethrough a day they are dubbing #SlutStreamDay.

Two streamers, Kacey “Kaceytron” Kaviness and Isabella “Izzybear713” O’Hammon, are hosting the day, partially devoted to reclaiming the word “slut.”


“The idea of #SlutStreamDay is to empower women to be themselves,” Kaviness and O’Hammon wrote in a joint statement on Twitter. “We want to draw attention to the harassment and massive shaming streamers face and fight against it.”

Slut stream day is being held in conjunction with World Day Against Trafficking in order to raise funds for Freedom 4/24, a nonprofit working against sexual exploitation and trafficking.

With over 500,000 followers on Twitch, Kaviness is known for satirically calling herself the “titty streamer” in response to the stereotype that female streamers only wear revealing clothing to get clicks online.


“We want any and all streamers who stand against the constant harassment and slut shaming of women to stream dressed in ways that make them feel comfortable and raise money for a good cause,” Kaviness and O’Hammon wrote.

The streamers are already garnering support, along with the expected, yet ironic, harassment for slut stream day.
 
How boring, already know how this will turn out. People will make fun of them and/or call the idea dumb, then those people will get called incels. This will be held up as proof the event was necessary, and the twitch thots will rake in a day of shekels and declare victory.
 
I like how women keep getting sluttier and sluttier and yet every generation has less sex than the previous ones. Maybe fundies had a point.

It seems to me if they were honestly "reclaiming" the word "slut", it should mean admitting openly that they are showing their titties for lonely guys on the internet to pay them and that there's nothing wrong or degrading with doing that. Instead the argument is always that the female body shouldn't be sexualized and you're wrong to look at it that way... which actually works against them because they're the ones choosing to show off theirs. It all seems very backwards. We see another clickbait piece about normalizing sex work every five minutes, but it's wrong for all of us to admit that Twitch tittystreamers are just using their physical assets to get attention and that's okay?
