RE4 was a marvel for its generation, a timeless game, and for me at the time a must needed title for the lacking output for the GameCube library. I find it pointless for that remake especially when details that make the game great.

Since the Thing movie was brought up, I wish they they remake games that were interesting but needed improvement or more time when the game was released. The 80s Thing was based on a 50s movie based on a 30s story but they make improvements on something corny into one of the best films of the era instead of cashing into nostalgia.

The Oblivion Remastered is so souless too.
But idk if Crowbcat gonna backup that.
There's a lot of differences.
his videos aren't that long my hamstigga, you can binge watch them on a saturday, the back4blood one was great because zoey's designer specifically mentions her needing to be sexy, i always grin when i hear that.

I've seen people refuse to accept that the original had tank controls, so that whole scuffle is retarded from the beginning. "Newfags" seem to gel with the game imo, with the True Fans having a stick up their ass about the purity of the franchise.

Think the worst complaint I've seen about the original RE4 is that it feels comparatively clunky, which is hardly unfair. Game was a goddamn revolution at the time, that its aged well enough to stand against its own remake is evidence of that.
I like the idea of fixed cameras, like you are being watched and filmed by umbrella or some shit, but I don't know about tank controls i'm not against it but I don't think that was the very thing that made those games great.

they tried this with a whole bunch of NES games during the ps1 era but they were basically all really bad. Perhaps bad may be a bit of a stretch because apparently people enjoyed Master Blaster but I got it at an outdoor market in like 2004 along with a bunch of other games and it was definitely bottom of the pile. frogger was like the exact same game on the ps1 and it was also bottom of the pile compared to shit like Spiro

second person camera is used to great effect in the metal gear solid series, to such a degree that mgs2 substance is kind of a gimmick experience and mgs3 is a total shitshow because it was designed with a third person camera but didn't launch with once

You mean those cameras which are following the character but not in third person?

Crowbcat did his part on RE4R with a 2nd masterfully dunk on Le modern audiences™️.

At this point either wait for most of RE titles hit GOG or keep emulating them, because if DR got a demaster for a quick buck then dino crisis fans may get a worse faith even (and that's a fanbase that been begging to have anything new mind you lol)

Just like he covered on DRDR slop so it's crystal clear if is a demaster of your favorite franchise:

GET READY FOR A SOUR MODERN AUDIENCES SOULESS DEMASTER ALONG WITH MOSTLY EVERYTHING LOCKED IN DLC'S $$$

i mean the remake of 4 is fine. its competent. not like they made it complete ass or anything. og game is still there to play if you really want to.

The tension and difficulty will be shot to shit if they change the gameplay to nuRE. The dinos won't be nearly as terrifying if you can dodge them so easily without thought or pre-planing.

There’s this part in the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster that I think perfectly describes why video games remakes are artistically bankrupt. Lars Ulrich is talking to Kirk Hammett about how guitar solos are outdated and that they should replace it. Kirk fires back by saying that by not including guitar solos it will just date the album to this period and it will cement the album to a trend that is happening in music right now.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=-UYPpOYXYWcKirk ended up being right and the album they were working on is widely regarded as their worst album.
not gonna turn the thread into metallica sperging but st. anger is great and fuck anyone who says otherwise
it's definitely an album of its period but that doesn't mean the songs aren't great. you can shit on the trashcan snare and whiny lyrics all you want but more and more people today, especially gen z, are starting to see how unfairly shit on it was, especially since most people at that time were angry at lars suing napster which was bullshit and their reasoning for it was also bullshit, kneejerk and shortsighted. now 20+ years later you see more and more people appreciating the album except for the few diehards whose only criticism is "snare sux lol".
st. anger was them trying something new and unique instead of the way more mainstream black album that they specifically designed to be mainstream for it to be an artificial megahit, and the documentary also goes over the anger that went into the album with james' alcoholism and absence from recording, lars getting pissed off at jason's absence, the napster shenanigans, jason leaving and the process of getting robert in and even making amends with dave or at least pretending to for the cameras.
if anything load and reload are both unremarkable albums and their "worst", maybe even throw death magnetic in there because of the loud war and uber-compressed audio that's so bad the best rip of it came from guitar hero where the tracks were at normal volume.
gimme your trashcans idgaf

Qix Neo and Lode Runner PS1 are pretty good

That is debatable but let's assume it was fine, but that doesn't change the fact that it was still unnecessary.

Wrong, since it has "Resident Evil 4" in it's title...actually, never mind, Resident Evil 4 IS it's title, then it WILL be compared to the original game by that name. And when compared, it simply doesn't stand up, it is inferior in every way comparable and the new mechanics(such as stealth or "side quests") are garbage and unnecessary. Even in a vacuum where the original didn't exist and we only had the demake, it would be a 6/10 at best, in a world where it plays second fiddle to a 20 year old game? 4/10, 5/10 maybe if you have nostalgia for it. The only positive thing you can say about the demake is that it is at least a playable alternative, something to play on the side, unlike the godawful Dead Rising demaster that is an active insult to every single person that played the original title. Both crapcom games, both came out at around the same time, both have crowbcat videos on them and both made crapcummies mad for roughly the same reasons, funny.

I disagree, a Resident Evil 4 remake could have been amazing. How it was handled and what it ended up being made it's existence completely unnecessary. Imagine a world where one third of the game was a remastered village section, one third was just the hook man demo made into it's own game and one third was the island section fixed, we could have had an amazing game and instead we maybe got the village section remastered, if you wanted to call it that(I say it's a demaster), everything else is either the same or inferior. Oh, and Separate Ways is a paid DLC now and Mercs didn't even come with the game, both had to be shoehorned in after.

Is this actually an unpopular opinion? St. Anger is one of my favorite all-time songs and albums, and anyone who says otherwise can kiss my ass. I say this as someone who likes most of their stuff, so there is quite a bit of competition too.

I thought the RE4 remake was fun. I've played both. The OG does some stuff better and the remake does some other stuff better. Guys like CrowBCat and GManLives always annoy me with their "purist snobbery." It won't be long before they're releasing videos claiming that the "renaissance of video games" was 2018 and that gaming has been ruined by a return to single-player campaign games.

I can't say for GManLives, but Crowbcat very clearly has a period he holds close to his heart - 2006-2011, or Early-mid Xbox 360 era. If he speaks positively about something, its from that era.

thats maybe ten years away but 2010s nostalgia is already beginning

The reason I mentioned GManLives is during his review of MGSDelta, he uses the original game's yellow filter as a positive. I remember reading a comment on that video that highlighted that people are now bringing up bloom effects and color filters, which were used to disguise low-res textures, as positives, when everybody complained about it at that time

Unless you are living in nostalgia or a contrarian, that time and the PS2 era were objectively the best period for gaming. It was just the time when gaming still had experimentation and the devs cared, while also cementing QoL features that makes games of previous generations unplayable.
