Off the top of my head:
  • Portal 2
  • Rayman Legends
  • Super Mario Bros
  • Vagante
More suggestions wanted, please.

Metal Slug
iirc a number of Square titles like FF6, somethings of Mana, and maybe Chocobo Dungeon have p2?

Oh, of course, if you are into retro, basically all the Nekketsu (spelling?) for the NES are awesome to play. (Technos is the company)

River City Ransom - i can play this any day, in fact, i think it is one of my most used "getting to know a new friend" co-op game for me.

Samurai - just as awesome as RCR but based in ancient Japan, kind of hard to understand at the beginning with all the clans moving around but i have finished it with friends atleast 4 times.

Nintendo World Cup 1 & 2 - Really fun untill you "break the code" and it gets too easy, but the fact you have your mate by your side makes it worth it.

Techno's Ice Hockey - far too easy at the beginning but the weirdness of the teams you meet (like samurais using swordsticks instead and so on) makes you wanna finish it, every team you beat you can chance into their gears. Second player is stuck as a goalie but hey, atleast worth to play it through atleast once)

Dodgeball - what can i say? Just as crazy as any other Technos game.

Crash and the boys street challenge - not their best but it's a wild ride.

There is some battle challenge game i have forgotten the name of but i fondly remember playing it with my mate when i was young, RIP my friend :feels:

There is more, but those i listed are all super awesome. oh, another cool game that isn't Technos but for Mame is Pipi & Bibis, a weird Bubble Bobble-esque clone that is crazy and challenging even on Mame, i better stop at this point but Mame is the way to go for an hour of fun with a Konami game or so (Asterix & Obelix is a underrated Konami beat 'em up)

Enjoy the ride with a friend next to you, great times, great memories <3

Resident Evil 5 and 6 were terrible Resident Evil games but the couch coop was great. The first two Army of Two games had great coop gameplay. Another great couch coop game was Rainbow 6: Vegas. It was too actiony to feel like a Rainbow 6 game, but like Resident Evil 5 and 6, it doesn't matter because it's fun.

What system is this for?
NES... it's called something else in Japan but the ROM is called "Samurai", if you download a full set of NES and a emulator and get you some NES USB controllers i promise you a good time
I had to download full sets a couple of time and it's always called "Samurai". You will recognise it fast as a spiritual follow up to River City Ransom.

(Pro tip; remember to use the start button to se the "World map" and were every clan is hiding. Took me a while to get it first.)

Dynasty Warriors 4. Had all the max weapons for all the characters. Shared my memory card for PS2 once and the person who got it said, “holy shit, you must have a lot of time on your hands.”

Oh OK. I have that one. It was translated to English but it was called something else, I think Kunio something or other.

Yeah I love the RCR games. Even the one made more recently, not by Technos but a crowdfunded project iirc, was decent.

I couldn't figure out the Samarai game at all when I played it. I think I was running around an empty map. I didn't know about pressing start to view the map, I'll keep that in mind whenever I try it again.

I have a full set of nes and snes games on my PC, and a lot of Playstation games and a handful of PS2 games. I particularly like the PS1 games because I never had a PS1 so most of those games are new to me.

I don't use a USB nes controller but I imagine that is neat to play with. I do okay with an Xbox one controller. I find it to be the most comfortable if you have big hands.

I really liked the Suikoden games and the Arc the Lad games on playstation. Also, I started Breath of Fire 3 awhile back, which is also decent.

I have the suikoden games for ps2 downloaded as well, but haven't played those yet.

I'm going extremely off topic as none of these are co-op, so I'll end this by echoing what @Lathe said: Dynasty Warriors 4 is a very fun game for co-op. The first in the series that really did co-op iirc.

Oh, one more thing @deeman. If you like Super Dodgeball from Technos, they made a Neo Geo version as well that's really awesome.

Bof3 effing rules, the same with the first two Suikoden games, but a underrated pearl is Lunar Silver Star STory for PSX just finished it and it's a rad game!

Me and my little brother about 15 years ago decided to drink together, my brother got so drunk he laid in a ditch talking about how much he misses Gremio. Suiokoden is a holy pearl in our family.

But to go back to retro co-op, there is "Little ninja brothers", it's tough but the firstt co-op RPG on the NES.

A random list of some off the top of my head I didn't see posted.

Gauntlet(any of them really), perfect dark, hexen, The rampage games, and goemon on the n64, zombies ate my neighbours, battletoads, contra, super smash TV, goof troop and secret of mana on the SNES. Guacamelee on PC is pretty fun with two people. Gunstar heroes and toejam and Earl on the Genesis.
