Truth was the anime was shit from the start.

The anime alone is proof that anime can't create original shit without showing how hackened they are. I'm still baffled that there are even defenders of that series alone which reminds me how delusional TLOUII fans are, willing to defend something that is objectively shit and inferior to past titles and as you can guess, the defenders themselves are coombrains with lack of control over their consumerism habits.

I've seen other fans, be it Star Wars, Team Fortress 2 and World of Tanks, and I still think they are quite tame compared to shitbrains like DarliFra fans.

The thing is, you don't need more than one GameBoy to recreate the feeling, and it's highly unlikely any "collector" actually takes the time to plug in and play with one of his 20 or 40 old consoles enough to make them worth the expenditure. They mainly get them for the sake of commodity fetishism: to look at them and show them off. That's why their pride and joy are always the useless 'limited editions' that companies come out with precisely to pressure consoomers out of their money. Of course that doesn't mean the expenditure and lunacy of average 'collectors' is as out of control as the hoarders' (like that Nintendo room guy), but it's still a massive waste of money in my eyes.

There were several different models of the Game Boy. As a faggot, I can say that I have a backlit Game Boy and a flashcart for it, and I regret not getting the back light in peasoup green. (Fuck buying the games at this point.)

Then there's the Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, and like 3 models of the Game Boy Advance. All of which are easily emulatable on my phone + a controller or something else. But do I want a sealed in box 1989 Game Boy with Tetris? Well . . . yeah, it'd be kinda cool, but I'd never actually buy it. I do have a lot of original hardware because I either don't like emulation (SEGA Saturn, N64) or it's easier to just connect it to a shitty CRT I have (everything else). With retrogaming you have a whole bunch more consoooming, like upscalers because the images look kinda awful on modern TVs, optical drive emulators so you can pirate games easily, flashcarts, etc.

I'm actually glad I grew up in the 90s when consoom wasn't so prevalent for the shows I liked. In the late 1990s-early 2000s, there wasn't really merchandise for them outside of a poster you might find at Wal-Mart or some DVDs. Now you're slammed with keychains, pillows, figures, cups, stickers, you name it.

But I think the worst CONSOOM item to ever come out were blind boxes. I think kidrobot started that or something? There used to be little plastic "dunny's" I'd see in stores and it seemed impossible to get the only one you wanted, furthering this mindset to 'spend 'till you get it'. And now I never even hear of these things or Kidrobot anymore unless it's a collab.

Not a rant, the show isn't interesting enough to warrant one honestly, I was just wondering what level of detail the guy wanted and also I haven't watched it in a couple years and some of the details have gone fuzzy but here it goes:

So humanity discovers that there's this fluid deep in the mantle of the Earth which is a miraculous power source but which also allows humans to live forever but costs the humans who undergo the treatment their virility. It also turns out that there are these giant robot dinosaur creatures that live deep in the earth and the miracle fluid is also the robot dinosaurs or some shit, I don't know it's fucking stupid. The robot dinosaurs get pissed and almost wipe out humanity but humanity (as it were) survives by piling into these ginormous moving domes that wheel all over the now barren and desolate planet, and the only way to defend these cities from the robot dinosaurs is to put children into mechs and fight them with anime powers. The main character has some kind of psychic connection to the pink haired bitch because he drank her blood when they were both children and she's also some kind of demon or some shit who was made as a clone from the blood of the princess of the robot dinosaurs who is of course a cute anime loli girl because why the fuck not? None of the characters actually know any of this though, because they were raised in an agrarian dome on top of the city and separated from the general population their entire lives and also memory erasing medical procedures or some shit. They've been raised from the artificial womb to be mech piloting soldiers who have to work in pairs, one male and one female, per mech to fight the robot dinosaurs. Well it turns out that humanity was tricked into fighting the robot dinosaurs byu a race of space aliens who are still controlling humanity from behind the scenes as some sort of shadow illuminati council to use the fear of humanity to complete their robot dinosaur genocide. The kids realize what's actually going on and stop the space aliens but not before the ones on Earth call the full invasion fleet. Then they have a giant final battle IN SPACE to save humanity and the future.

There's also a love triangle and teenage melodrama but all in all it's a pretty forgettable show that subsists entirely on the popularity of 02 (the pink haired bitch) and people who insist on making things deeper than they actually are; in that small way it's almost exactly like Evangelion.

This thread has been an interesting read. Especially some of the gaming stuff. I went through a couple of retro game collecting phases.

The first time I started collecting a whole bunch of 16bit games but never had any time to play the stuff really. I remember sitting in my room surrounded with all these games and delivery boxes thinking how ridiculous it is having this crap if you have no time to play it. I realized I was more into finding the next score on Ebay and I decided then to put all this stuff up for sale and get my money back.

The last time I was into this stuff was more to do with hardware. I was collecting bits of retro consoles and handhelds finding deals on stuff. I got more into fixing stuff up or modifying and then reselling it to nerds or collectors. There is something fun about fixing something up but at the end of the day I realized I was doing this stuff to distract myself from real work I needed to do. When I played video games I had too much stuff and couldn't decide what to play and when I did finally play something I got little enjoyment out of it.

Selling all that stuff off and getting away from that culture was a good move. When I see a gaming stream with a 40 year old man with a bunch of sonic plush toys and retro collectibles in the background, I get a feeling of unease. And reading a lot of this thread has confirmed to me the trappings of grown adults collecting all this kind of stuff.

The last few years i got to see these late 20s, 30 yr old women suddenly start sharing memes about binging anime and talking about being kawaii and sharing ironic hentai captions after a lifetime of actually hating on everything resembling anime with vitriol, they didn't discover a new hobby or had a change of hearth, they just know it equals likes now and they have to social signal else they start to feel old and out of the loop and we can't have that.

Late but going to just say. You can always tell these types by how they interact with any fandom that isn't the most basic normie shit. They stick out like a sore, slutty thumb when you're in groups of girls that are actually spergs, not to mention the fact that they never know anything that isn't being sold at Hot Topic. It's pretty funny to watch how offended they get when you point out they obviously don't know shit.

Something even more pathetic than being a modern video game collector are vidya item collectors. At the very least with the former you have a physical product. Something more pathetic are people who collect virtual items. The world of Warships is full of bizzare boomers who seek to own every set of naval themed pixels within the game, no matter how little effor Wargaming puts into each "unique" item.

The level of grind to "achieve" this requires literally years or unspeakable amounts of money. I hate when people talk about "buying" items in game, as if they are making an investment when it is more comparable rental, as we all know the servers for our favourite games will close at some point.

Making the temporary ownership of pixels as desireable as a real physical hobby is the only thing more sad than buying endless bobbleheads. Although it is easier to hide.

And I thought people going all out consoom mode with Valve games, i.e. DOTA 2 and TF2 cosmetics, and CSGO weapon skins, was enough, compared to this. Heck, I thought people trying to collect the entire car roster in racing games (namely ones that have additional cars sold as DLC) was too.

Those people are arguably worse if not for the fact that they supported Valve's business model and eventually became so normalized in their respective communities. It also got worse when you factor the websites actively housing scammers and such and as you would expect, the most expensive skins would have around $10,000+ costs.

In addition, F2Ps who want to get those cool skins/hats will have to fork up cash to even be a part of the economy. You'll be either stuck with just weapon drops of the Consumer-Grade level degree or have a debt of thousands because you spend it all on case drops. Shit like this should have to be earned through ranks and gameplay, not an in-game casino.

I do not give a shit if its cosmetic, the moment you support gambling mechanics, you are an automatic consoomer. Deal with-fucking-it.
