Personally it feels like a lot of the popularity for things like cottagecore or similar are from people that don't have easy access to nature in their daily life, which I do think is quite sad. Feels like people get a bit wonky when they're in a location almost entirely disconnected from nature. That said, a lot of them also develop unrealistic expectations and seem really unprepared for actual nature when faced with it.
There's a lot of anime that focuses on interacting respectfully with nature that does help people actually go outside and experience it for themselves which I do think is nice, but you also have a number of people that attempt it and get pissy it isn't just like their animu. I think Yuru Camp is a good example where it did get people interested in camping and finding a new hobby, but it also lead to a number of people not understanding the realities of camping getting upset at the experience or in the more extreme causing forest fires.
