Call me crazy but watching anime or Netflix on 1,5x speed make senses. I did it. A lot of that kind of tv is clearly not high art, it's confort, it's mindless entertainment, and the pacing isn't great. In the case of anime-of-the season in particular it's often very redundant, with scripted conversations and stereotyped characters, but the issue isn't very different with Netflix. It's the realm of real tv, meandering documentaries, okay-enough tv shows... most of those programs are padded with dead air.

You watch it to get the story, and maybe take part in watercooler conversations but the experience can actually be vastly improved by watching it faster.

Watching three animes at once is a little bit insane though. One of the anime he was watching was good enough to deserve normal watching conditions imo.

Also, It's hilarious how pimply he is, it really doesn't go with his "Patrick Bateman if he was an asian tech guy" lifestyle.

This person has several copies of the exact same fucking book from the same author, maybe they are alternate covers or something but still, at this level you jumped the shark, its not about the enjoyment of reading them anymore.

I had to take a look at my own bookshelves after seeing that photo and the only books I have multiples copies of are The Lord of the Rings, the Bible, Tao Te Ching and Quran.

The latter three because of different translations and LOTR because the old one dates back to around the time the films came out and has nostalgia value. I'd otherwise get rid of it because the appendices have fallen out and it's a beat up paperback version.

I doubt it’s marketing. It’s just someone bragging about living the high life after getting their first high paying job. He’s most likely broke. He earns around $196k/yr, but after NYC tax he only has $126k. Excluding stock and bonus, which are paid quarterly and yearly respectively, his monthly after tax pay is “only” $7600 assuming zero retirement contributions, insurance premiums, and other paycheck deductions.

An apartment with his view has got to cost $5k/mo ($60k/yr) if not more. He spends money on expensive Manhattan coffee and food despite getting high quality food and drink from work for free. He spends thousands on a gym membership that is likely duplicated twice by his luxury apartment and office. His entire lifestyle screams expensive and he probably has an enormous amounts of other expenses. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out he lives paycheck to paycheck, which is stupid when half of your pay is stock that can and has been decreasing. At the very least, he’s spending his entire cash salary.

There are groups of spoiled, sheltered minority groups who grew up in suburban whitebread communities, had professional parents, went to private school and all that and go out of their way to try to act as "cultural" as possible and pretend to be victims despite being more privileged than almost the entire world and hell, even most crackers in Burgerland. Read a survey years ago where something like 40% of all reading for pleasure was done either in the bath, on the toilet, or at the beach/pool. None of those are kind to dropped electronics.

In all fairness they aren't very kind to paper either but at least I can dry out and salvage a book most of the time.

I've dropped my 1st gen Kindle Paperwhite in the bath around 5-6 times over 11 years of ownership and you couldn't tell. Can't imagine the same for the physical book.
I was super scared the first two times it happened (I've spent more than a half of my first paycheck on it ) but it seems to be built with heavy use in mind.
