I have yet to find any physical weaknesses
Here's an idea for one. His superpower is enhanced senses, right? So, what if his weakness involves these enhanced senses. Like, in a place with overabundant sensory input (city street, factory, ect), his brain has trouble processing the information at the same rate it's receiving it. If not controlled, this can cause "fade outs" (higher level thought is drowned out by raw sensory input, brain can't use sensory input), anxiety attacks, and severe migraines. Alphaboy can control this by only focusing on a few inputs at a time, and switching off at certain intervals.

People are being too nitpicky. If Connor is writing, he's writing. Complaining about the first draft of a first chapter isn't likely to make him want to write any more. He probably set his daily word goal a little high, but that's a pretty common, ho-hum thing to do and it is easy to correct.

When he does idiotic or pissy stuff feel free to pile on, but it's lame to pick apart someone when they're not doing anything wrong yet.

I'm going to go ahead and say that a strong opening sentence can decide whether or not your reader wants to continue.

I would recommend "They say that one bullet can change the course of destiny, well, I guess they were right"

Yeah, I agree with this 1,000 times we should give him a chance and be encouraging him so he completes the novel. If it's terrible and has racist ape characters and a Molly Sue then we can have fun ripping it but if he goes all "fucky you" because no one gives him a shred of a chance then there's no content.

I'm not trying to be nitpicky. I just wanted to give some advice.

It'd be nice to see him make something with some promise.

basically, just read the dialog out loud, recording it if possible, and figure out if it actually sounds like a natural conversation.

Excellent advice. I'd also add, as someone with no professional experience/extensive writing training that reading everything aloud (even just in a murmer) has helped me immensely over the years. If you find yourself tripping over your own writing, then you run a much higher chance of confusing or annoying your readers.

But... but... double spaced. That's totally something Hitler would have done, if he was just a little bit worse.

All of the halal threads are locked except yours, Connor. Good job on that?

How's progress, by the way? According to your goal, you should be somewhere near 10k. I sincerely hope you've been doing a little writing each day so far! 'Zero' days are the worst.

I haven't been paying much attention to this thread recently, but I do want to say, without a hint of sarcasm, that it's cool that Connor is trying to write something new. Good luck!

The past couple of days have sucked. I couldn't find any time to write because I've been running around town with my grandmother, which can be frustrating at times. I just started the second chapter today, and I hope to finish it. I feel better writing during the week than the weekends, because I don't get interrupted by life as much. I've also been studying for a math test for Tuesday.

What were you doing?
I mean, are you running cross country 8 hours a day? You didn't have an hour or two to yourself?

The missed days suck, but it just means you need to do a few days doing twice as much. As long as you're persistent, you'll be fine.

It might be just me, but I feel like I write better late at night. You should find a time you write best at, and work on it for an certain amount of time each day.

I'm just shy of 10,000 words on my own thing right now.

Just got back from yet another shopping run with my grandmother. I'm starting to get the feeling life is kicking me in the balls.
/MASSIVE STRESS-SIGH
Connor, sweetie, you're being predictable again.

You seem to be spending a lot of time with your grandmother. I think It's really sweet to do that. But are your parents forcing this on you, it seems like there's a lot of time out with her lately.

Here's a clue, Connor - if your writing plan falls to pieces the moment you have to make a couple of shopping trips, it was a shitty plan to begin with

Seriously, @Connor, the minor inconveniences that come with everyday life isn't "life kicking you in the balls." It's just stupid shit that's a part of living.
