Y'know, I read a bit of advice the other day that might help you and anyone else in this thread who's writing/thinking about writing. Said advice suggested one way to write a novel is to treat each chapter as a short story. Beginning, middle, end. It's just that the short story is contributing to a larger story.

I've found it's helped me out. Seeing the chapters in such a way makes it seem like less of a huge, overwhelming project.

I love how Connor says that he is CONSIDERING talking to his mother about how he is CONSIDERING a job. I'd say based on those two factors the optimism he's been greeted with for saying this is pretty wide off the mark. When has Connor ever said he was going to do something and actually followers through with it?

Connor, as much as I want to say "Hey! Good on you for going after a job!", I'd recommend not constantly telling us about these things and JUST DO IT.

You've always talked about how you're going to do this and that, but you rarely deliver.

Just do all the things you want to do for your own sake. For your own happiness. Not because you want asspats from people on a website that don't necessarily have a high opinion of you to begin with.

Yeah, he's said multiple times that the only reason why he hasn't taken some volunteer work is that he's afraid his parents would disown him over it. To me though Connor has always used his parents as an excuse for not doing the things a person his age should be doing,

I've always viewed what he says about his parents as angsty teenage behaviour, once he made a long post on Wrongplanet about how awful his parents were for being concerned about him after one of his suicide attempts.

I'd take anything he says about his parents with a grain of salt, personally. After all, he's already admittedly lied about them being abusive monsters.
