It's been suspected by quite a few people that the the mayor of Berkeley has been keeping the Berkeley PD from doing its job. Recently there were persons claiming to work in the Berkeley PD on /pol/, claiming that the mayor was threatening to shitcan and blacklist anyone that dared to touch an Antifa member.

I'm almost certain that particular post was bogus, as the poster misspelled the name of his own alleged department as "Berkley" while spelling everything else in the post correctly. I think they just had it say what they think is true.

That said, I think they have in fact been ordered to stand down, and their behavior and demeanor when talking in public is consistent with being pissed off about that order. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if they are engaging in malicious compliance, or even overtly or by implication letting the other side know about the hands off order too, in a "you know what to do" way.

So while I don't think the "insider" was anything but a troll, I think the actual situation is pretty much that.

On top of what you've said here, even if you've got genuinely nuanced/informed anti-Trump commentary, it's still hard to appreciate in the current climate, just because of how numb we all are to it.
