There's a barely known author who writes the lamest fantasy books ever made and self-publishes them on Amazon and sells pretty much nothing, but there are hundreds of reviews all over the internet about how he's blowing Tolkien out of his socks and how humanity has collectively decided he's the greatest wordsmith to ever haunt the page. He also as a forum where nobody ever gets approved to post but is filled with weird accounts talking about how awesome he is and fancasting the latest adaptation of his work that just got announced in the trades. It's all a larp done by said author of unread books, but he's having fun pretending to be a big shot and that's all that matters. (He also posts pictures of himself with authors he considers peers, but they're likely pictures he snapped at a signing.)
This is basically what Dick's doing. He doesn't care if he loses viewers by the hundreds; he has no interest in debating anyone. He thought he was going to be the next hot shit comic creator, but his affiliation with CG has barred him from the mainstream industry, and he's too lazy to put out regular books of his own. Now he's old, apparently doesn't need whatever little money comics would have brought in, so he's content with screaming into the void and debating imaginary foes. It's fun for him. In his mind he's the ultimate tastemaker and the world is hanging on his every word. It's similar to EVS who sees himself as some kind of podcaster/talk show host now instead of a comic artist. At least that's how I see it.
