You can tell he was always ernest by the fact that even now he will still occasionally shit on mags vissagio and Joe glass, why? Because he decided that he hates them and needs an emotional and ego boost on occasion to convince himself he's not an embarrassing failure.

They (don't really) have the power over media he wishes he did over comics....

He's upset he doesn't have what he imagines others to have behind locked doors and are merely pretending to be normal .....
