As someone in academia I can guarantee that your last statement is true. If he manages to publish he’ll have 10 colleague say they read it and how “important” it is. Pathetic.

Ooh , what do you do?

I'm genuinely disappointed in the professor because he's amazing otherwise. Great lecturer and surprisingly sharp/honest for a Leftist. But apparently didn't bother to do even basic research on Comicsgate, or is lying.

Please peruse his social media, and if you find him bragging about said book, please provide his accounts so we can watch the inevitable sperging from interaction with people outside his perspective.

I'm too fond of him to dox him.

And almost all books are wokeshit. These are connected. That's exactly why these people have no leverage.

As much as I am on the “Get Woke, Go Broke” bandwagon. It’s a gross oversimplification for the problems comics faces. They laid the foundations for this crash years before the dangerhaired weirdos started polluting the products. Their biggest problem is the exclusivity of Direct Market. At the height of comics popularity they went to specialty stores only. That allowed for a lot of short term economic benefits. But long term it was a death sentence. The problem is while specialty shops are great, they suck at pulling in new or casual consumers. They cater to the already informed and entrenched hobbyist. They gave up the drug store spinner racks.but those drug store racks were how you hooked the young. You don’t go to a comic shop because you want to start reading comics. You go to a comic shop because you like comics and want to find more. Without having that initial entry point at consumer retail, and at impulse buy pricing, they do not pick up the next generation. And your consumer base slowly becomes nothing but old men.

The Get Woke Go Broke kicks in when you try and force your Woke, Girl Focused drivel on your exclusive audience of old men. It accelerates the departure of your long term customers, while it has no potential to attract a new audience, even one that might potentially like the Insufferable Wasp or Squirrel Girl.

The only way to save the comic industry would be to change the pricing and distribution models. Get back into mass market retailers. Buy encaps at Target and Walmart in the toy section. Recognize that your books target different audiences. Put the spider-man and Avengers books at the end of the action figure aisle. Put the girl focused books down near Barbie. Make the books returnable by the merchant. And price them at no more than $1.99. Make them impulse buys again. Something Mom and Dad buy as a treat for the kid to encourage them to read. And counterintuitively doing this would save the comic shops. Like I said people don’t go to Comic shops to start buying comic books. They go to comic shops to find MORE comic books. You have to spark interest first. Something the modern industry has been horrible at doing.

The comic industry is in a Death Spiral. They failed to attract new customers because they went about it the wrong way. The hipster ideologues sought to replace their customers instead of growing them. At every decision point for the past ten years they have chosen badly. They need to kick over the tables and do whatever it takes to get their product in the hands of kids easily and cheaply, or they will die. They likely already are past the point of no return.

Those went out a long time ago, and they aren't coming back. Even more than other print media, those specialty stores were where their only audience was, and they destroyed them. They aren't getting a new one. The problem with comics is probably fatal, or at least with the comics industry. There will probably be some form of drawings and dialogue art into the foreseeable future, but you are never going to see another Golden Age or even Silver Age, where people start out buying things at a drugstore for the equivalent of a nickel in the '50s and then grow up following them.

Get woke, go broke is a thing, but here it just accelerated a decline that was inevitable. The wokery just made it dramatic and quick instead of something that could be adjusted to. They shit all over the only audience they had. It's not like they can pivot and get it back.

So I found this video from Jack Saint where he's white knighting Brie Larson and the Captain Marvel film. He's specifically going after Geeks & Gamers, the Quartering, YellowFlash, Tim Pool, MechaRandom42, EVS, etc.

From the latest Ollie's flyer. They're still trying to sell their comics hoard, it looks like prices may be lowered.

:story:
This has been going on for over a year. Last year they were selling at 80% off MSRP. Ollie's has to be paying under a nickel (and probably closer to a penny) on the dollar to keep this deal up.

I think Ya Boi passed that point a few months ago and now is content to document the industry as it burns down. As a CG supporter I’m enjoying the schadenfreude 🍸
Alternatively it could be that the major companies are incredibly fucked up, since random nobodies on the internet can outsell and outearn them. Ionno.
I mean they're throwing expensive product out to a closeout store for well under the cost of production, so I'd say that they're fucked off.

Sorry for snipping your post up but I just wanted to respond to the retail specific points. Do you know why the Big 2 gave up big retail? Returnability. What is anathema to them, is mandatory to big retail. They won't carry it unless it's returnable or they're paying less than 10 cents on the dollar. Even the drugstores.

Endcaps are stupid expensive, especially high traffic locations like toy aisles. They would have to move millions of books to justify paying for an endcap in a Target or Walmart plano. Even if they went with a select market or store type, they'd likely eat shit on that deal.

Side panels, the things on the sides of endcaps, would be much cheaper but they tend to get the shit kicked out of them. A side panel full of floppies would regularly turn into a disaster including just breaking off the endcap due to it's weight and some dipshit ramming their cart into it. When one of those side panels actually hurts someone (and it will), that deal will end.

The Big 2 are too fucked off to ever earn themselves a seat at big retail's table. They'd be lucky if they could earn themselves a seat at K-mart's table.

I'm thinking it'll be weebshit that takes capeshit's place. Capes are passe. Waifushit and shonen are where the growth and audiences are now.

This old video goes against what LNC has been saying about EVS:

In it, Ya Boi makes the point that EVS is basically the only pro to have a YouTube channel and that he uses it to connect with fans purposely.

LNC seems to present a thesis that EVS is a psycho and that would seem to go against this premise.

Frankly, LNC and the rest of SJW pros seem like the psychos out there.

Is LNC a pro of some kind? I have no idea who this lunatic is, but my impression is of some near homeless mental case who we won't know who he is until he murders someone.
I know he’s now a “Special Person”, but not so long ago he was a “Confirmed Kiwi Leak”, so I assumed he got some special pass into the pro club. But if 95% of pros are spergs (which seems likely) he’s probably just a freak.

Alterna confirms that uploads to pirate sites coming from Comic Review "Journalists". Which is one of these open secrets. I'm sure a lot of people figured that the uploads were coming from within. Peter Simeti is content to just let youtubers be his "promoters".

Interestingly, he addresses the "pay for play" aspect of comic reviews as well.

Simeti isn't #comicsgate but he's been viciously attacked by the pros in the industry. He seems to be doing everything right where the pros are doing nearly everything wrong. He's a class act.

I could maybe understand some random schmuck doing this, but Comic "journalists" who are getting deals from this doing this is shockingly disgusting. Nigga they're a fucking dollar, don't be a faggot and do Peter dirty like that. But Peter hitting up the youtube crowd for reviews is a smart move. No one trusts fake news sites anymore and would rather hear opinions from some dude in his room with a webcam or cellphone

Guessing its one of those "if he had just bent over for us we wouldn't be unsuccessfully trying to sabotage his business " type of deals?

Sadly my local Ollies hasn't gotten anything new in comic-wise for months. Last delivery was a ton of unsold Injustice HCs and more some random DC stuff (most notably Futures End V2 and Earth's End V1 and the most recent printing of Legends that was done when Suicide Squad came out in theaters)

I wonder if it was a one time deal or a semi-regular house cleaning that they do for DC.

I've never actually been in an Ollie's so I'm not sure how those stores look and work but generally in that business you spend more on payroll physically stocking the inventory than you actually spent on the inventory. I imagine that after a certain point they'll just start dumpstering books that don't sell in order to rotate the shelf space.

Since they're probably doing it deliberately out of malice specifically to harm Simeti, if he can track any of these, he probably qualifies for statutory damages without even having to actually prove damages. Statutory damages, being at least partially punitive in nature in a case like this, also entitle him to attorney's fees and costs. A SINGLE count of willful infringement at the statutory maximum could net him $150,000, and because of the nature of the infringement and the person infringing, this would be a very juicy and attractive case for an enterprising copyright lawyer.

Maybe Nicky Rackets's friend Stephen Burch would know who to talk to about it or be willing to take it himself.

If I am remembering correctly, he used to be pro-CG but didn't get enough attention, so he lost his mind. But he isn't a comics pro.
He tried to get in on the CG gravy train and even paid for back page ads in some comic promoting his Youtube channel(? twitter? something CG related), but most people didn't care for his opinions and realised he was a frothing at the mouth turbosperg pretty early on. He appears to hate and blame EVS for gatekeeping him out of the community, when in reality it was just people didn't care for him. He keeps sperging on Darwyn Cooke because he had some measure of success riling up Marsha Cooke against EVS and CG by running gay ops against her.

He was an obvious spaz then too which is why I was baffled at him getting that banner.
I think Em gave it to him after confirmation of an 'in' with Tim Lim and the promises of goods to come, before she got nothing but empty promises for the week and got fed up with him.
