Journalists vastly overestimate who gives a flying fuck about the fake news and clickbait they spew, and tumblrinas vastly overestimate the influence people who don't even buy a product can have by boycotting it. Catering to these cunts has led to economic catastrophe. I don't see how catering to people who actually do buy their product could possibly end up worse.
Comics aren't really that notable right now so no one pays attention to them. The REEEE'ing of comic journalists if we had one massive purge would eventually get picked up by mainstream journalists who are just hearing about it and then Disney will have to take care of the PR nightmare of a million "REEE NAZIS" for enabling Marvel Entertainment to do so. So either Disney sides with "Nazis" by telling the SJWs to fuck off, they weren't buying anyways or forces Marvel to take the heat. If fans don't come back by doing this than they would've destroyed "mainstream" support for nothing.

You need to keep in mind how this would all look to outsiders who will have no clue what's going on.

They're a very small niche market, so pissing off that ENTIRE market is not exactly bright.

Fuck outsiders. Who cares? They're not buying any of this shit.

I don't see how "alienate people who actually buy your products to cater to people who don't" can be profitable ever.

Maybe I'm talking out my ass, has there been any past example of screaming harpies hijacking an industry and then getting removed without killing their host? My point was more the PR disaster for Disney they'd make on their way out as having all the buzzwords associated with your brand isn't profitable either.

Vidya's doing fine despite all the goobergrape bullshit. Of course, they never really took it over in the first place, just annoyed a bunch of people, took over a bit of the journalism end of it that nobody cares about, and screwed over some indie designers with fake awards shows.

Media in general (and Hollywood in particular) has suffered from this fallacy for a while: ignore the built-in audience, because that audience "is already coming" and shoot for the mainstream. Forget what the core wants, do whatever it takes to bring in the outsiders.

Time and again, the assumption that the "core" audience would come no matter what has been proven false. It takes a while, but even the most loyal of fans will tell you to go fuck yourself if you ignore them too long.

I think by the time they decided to go after video games it was too late. Rockstar, EA, and others made billions upon billions of dollars by catering to dudebros and/or filling their games with the most un-PC shit imaginable. No one cares about Gone Home or Advanced Lesbian Walking Simulator (or are they the same game?) when Grand Theft Auto V crushes entire film franchises by comparison in one week of sales.

Disney's 1st problem here is that those outsiders are the ones buying their cape movie tickets. So it has to manage it's public image carefully.

Disney's 2nd problem is that SJWs don't fucking compromise, at all, so it will be extremely hard to find a cohesive vision that unites both sides of the divide. Because while it's easy to say "fuck off SJWs, you don't buy shit", they are the ones who primarily control the hype machine now, which problem #1 dictates that you have to deal with in some manner.

GamerGate has plenty of defanged (if not completely removed) harpies, which was boosted by the fact you kindly stated: The video game industry is bigger than it's comics counterpart by many orders of magnitude.

If anything, that's a reason Disney would abolish their comics wing entirely, put it under the control of their own people, and fire everyone. Why would they want to be associated with degenerate perverts who contribute nothing but degeneracy and raping their intellectual property farm?

they are the ones who primarily control the hype machine now

That would be the hype machine that totally took FemmeBusters over the top to massive success rather than simply led it off a cliff to financial failure?

This actually make some sense. Disney has experience making its own comics anyways.

I had a feeling you'd reply with that exact movie, and while you're very correct, that movie's promotion was really antagonistic to the fanbase, like, even the normies probably were put off by the constant drama. Plus, Sony Pictures is fucking incompetent and can't make or sell movies. They are literally the last obstacle in mothership Sony's return path to big profitability.

But remember that that same hype machine is what got Get Out a fucking top 10 IMDB spot.

Or maybe it was that it was actually pretty good, plus the usual IMDB massive bias toward anything released in the last two weeks.

I don't know, dude. That's like saying the more we engage Potato Phil, the more he gains from it. I mean, yeah...more people know who he is, I guess, sure. His fame grows. It's just, he's famous for being a fat, tattooed, fungussy rétard.
I think most people know to stay away from Phil by instinct (if only because associating with him will make them look bad) while this guy has a modest chance to gain a following on account of being a "PoC creator who gets harassed by neo nazi Richard Meyer and his goons" or whatever the narrative will be. Like I said, Gail Simone is already endorsing him which is huge for someone why is pretty much a nobody on all accounts. If he can properly ride this out he stands to gain a lot without really putting anything on the line since his comic can't really become less popular. And yeah, gaining a crowd of dangerhair followers who are more likely to beg him for money than support him isn't exactly great, but again, probably better than the literal nothing he has now.

Really if it weren't for the fact that Marvel has very few iconic story and they need to test the waters with new ideas somewhere, I think Disney would've simply closed down comics division and gone into doing reprints exclusively given how irrelevant the comics industry is when not factoring for Marvel's fuckups.I

Then again Disney cares so little about comics as is that all the tie-in comics to their tv shows are literally just screen shots from pre-existing episodes copy-pasted into panels with MS Paint word balloons plastered over them.

I think the reason big daddy disney hasnt bitched slapped or scorched earth the comics division is the fact sjw marvel hasn't fully bled into the movies. If movie revenue was getting hurt by shitty writing like the comics they would care a lot more. Kind of like Battlefront. They didnt care until the headlines starting equating Star Wars with children gambling before Last Jedi's release. They didn't need that shit derailing the hype train for that. They just needed to wait for the movie to do that it's self.

To be fair, people also make fun of white writers doing the "#Woke PoC" thing and come off as far removed from the groups they focus on. I don't support the notion of "you should only write people 'like' you" but I know that'll come up. They would go to the argument that they're fixing that issue.

There's "write what you know" and "challenge yourself to depict something outside of your direct experience with respect and nuance" but most authors do the first and never go very deep with it.

If Gabby Rivera has shown us anything, it's that just because you are a "#Proud #Woke Queer WoC," it doesn't mean you're capable of writing that well.

You know what's funny? Today's print of America Chavez or whatever might be worth a million dollars in a couple decades, just because they can barely break 5 figures in sales and whatever is left over ends up being shredded into mulch or birdcage liner and collectors will have a hell of a time finding a mint copy. Sort of the opposite of what happened with the crash of '96.

Assuming superhero comics don't go the way of ham radio, that is.

Even if they do... the stuff from any hobby that tends to be worth money is the stuff from the very beginning and the very end. Whatever's last off the presses, regardless of quality, is liable to be worth something.

For anyone with a job in comics there's a hundred people who would be glad to fill it and not just be entitled cunts who think they're owed it because "woke."
That's actually part of the issue, a lot of these pros are actually convincing themselves that we're not "real" customers, we're all just jealous losers who want to work in comics and take der jerbs.
