They’ve had a good 2 or 3 year warning and they ignored customer complaints about their books in favor of appeasing a certain set of people who really don’t support comics like that. They kept on pushing the same narrative that doesn’t sell books and turns customers away. Now it’s time for change. They don’t have to be CG, but they should have taken a closer look and what the more successful CGers were doing so they could have had the skill to survive out there outside of the mainstream.

Ironically DC was almost shuttered in the 70s by it's new owner Time Warner because the stuff they were putting out wasn't selling they only survived then because the new president of DC convinced the suits that the comics could be farmed for new content for movies and merchandise and the 80s comic boom basically solidified that decision.

Dude Comichron itself even acknowledges Graphic novels and book stores are what's pushing sales of American comics now and book stores are not going to stock shit that doesn't sale like an LCS does.

I'll acknowledge though that that figure doesn't break down by publisher so it's fairly useless to use as a metric of Marvel/DC's success but I was using it more to illustrate that comics' problems aren't wokeness if anything bandwagoning on a popular social trend should either cause no damage or actively help it * see the film and video game industry *.

I'd argue that these sales come from shoveling cheap, crap comics out there, comics made at a loss as pitches for movies and TV and variant covers.

What I see DV doing is optimizing the market: a monthly Batman, Superman, Flash, GL and JLA title makes sense, the rest can be mini series and/or GNs.
Marvel should probably do the same and it will make them make more profit and get their brand better. Imagine collectors being able to afford* EVERYTHING DC and Marvel does and how this can make for a stronger industry

*Everything = a couple titles more than the comics they buy each month already. Surely, $8 more would be no big deal, right?
