A historic amount of cocaine was displayed during a press conference Monday, after the U.S. Coast Guard announced the largest cocaine offload in Coast Guard history.
The haul, totaling 76,140 pounds of drugs seized from 19 separate operations in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean Sea, symbolized two months of non-stop hard work for the Coast Guard Hamilton crew.

Officials say crews seized 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of bulk marijuana worth $473 million before it could reach U.S. shores.
"To truly understand the significance of this offload, consider this. The 61,740 pounds of cocaine represent 23 million potentially lethal doses," said Southeast District commander Adm. Adam Chamie. "That's enough to fatally overdose the entire population of the state of Florida."
Chamie said keeping these drugs from reaching the U.S. is critical to disrupting the cartels that traffic them.
"These drugs fuel and enable cartels and transnational criminal organizations, the very same groups that are pushing fentanyl and other deadly substances to our community," explained Chamie.
