It would be cute, but then why link your character to some shitty species instead of just making one yourself, or hell, even commission some person to do it for you?
 
While browsing fur affinity late last night, you can imagine my surprise when I saw that someone paid $175 for what amounts to a generic black and white husky dog.

Further investigation into the species known as Zorgoia (fur affinity user https://www.furaffinity.net/user/zorgoias/ ) and there are multiple dog based designs, each selling for $175. A reference sheet was auctioned and AB'd for $800 - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37863611/ - While the non-dog themed ones are a bit more creative, everything about the Zorgoia species from the species itself to the generic art and design choices, along with the price is nothing short of highway robbery. Then again, all fake species are lol!
There's also these lovely halloween themed ones https://www.furaffinity.net/view/38820235/ which are being sold for $200!

I browsed this person's page a bit more, and they've literally managed to rip off Pokemon designs and sell them for hundreds.

He's literally ripped off Umbreon and it was autobought for either $200 or $450.

The species is supposed to be nightmares condensed into dog-deer creatures, so yes, it's technically supposed to look like that because they can only draw generic dog things.

That design is also fugly, but I'm not going to redraw that one. I did finish my drawing however.

You can't really tell it's based on the other thing though, since I had to scrap 99% of what the other one looked like to turn it into something that's not a mess and looks like an actual animal. As I said before, I went with a cat since so many of these things are dogs.

Artists like Natsuki weird me out because of that, too. They post adopts on the daily for years now, most being just anthro pokemon, and get praised constantly for how unique and creative their adopts are. It's baffling.

Just take a pokemon, turn it anthro and you've got a million other characters out there already just like it. Some of them DO look kinda cool, but I wouldn't bother ever buying an adopt based on another existing franchise because... Why? I want something genuinely unique I can use for other projects, not a rip.

You could easily take small inspirations you like from different pokemon, change features/body parts, colour palette and get something pretty outstanding in itself.

Not only that, but I'm pretty positive that selling obviously Pokemon-based designs like that is illegal and design theft..

Holy shit i just saw a really lazy closed species. Its sad because the artist is actually good.

This is quite old by now, apologies if you guys have covered it already.

Gaiaonline is still kicking, and they're in hot water right now for creating items based off of popular 'closed species' artists. One of the artists on the team must be a Hen-Tie fan, since it seems several items have been taking inspiration from their designs.

One of the items has Hen credited now in the description and was removed from being purchasable. Takes me back to when one of the folk on the Homestuck team went to Gaia and petitioned to get their items taken down since they had candycane horns.

Gaia has stolen an incredible amount of IP designs/things. There's a shitload of pokemon things on there as well as like 10 different colors for each one to just milk more money.

The thing is, if you look at forums people will ask "can you make things from x anime??" all the time. There's so many other stolen anime costumes but no one really seems to care since no one really gives a shit about Gaia since it's not as hot as it used to be. The amount of money they make from these "limited" items though are well over a few thousand and get bought out within an hour at least.

I know some fantasy settings do that (e.g. Pratchett's dwarfs all have beards and it's difficult to tell if you're talking to a man or a woman), but it's done more for comedic effect, or they're all very masculine. I was really, really hoping the flowerbeard softboy design thing had died out a couple years ago, but I was too optimistic. It looks like shit with the anime little girl pigtails, especially.

Actually, looking into the comment section of the piece on deviantArt, it appears that the Floral Dwarf is a favourite mostly due to the beard.
