Hate that kind of shit, they say to not take inspiration from their own characters but they would gladly rip off someone else's. We live in a society.
Well, their "don't take inspiration" doesn't have any legal power, as far as I know. The only thing they can do, in case I would want to be inspired by whatever they draw, is to make it so ugly, that I would reconsider. Elusive Joe defence is their only salvation.

man if I ever actually get my tits chopped, I WISH I could get some weird ass sparkles. It'd scare people away. But yea. Probably is
god no. if i get a special level up perk after titchop i'm going for no scars. or no losing my nipples down the road
Ok but, hear me out. Glitter nipples
This is a joke please do not get glitter nipples

Die.

Rudi it is. Go get a head from the mascot.

Yea happened with me a while ago. Somebody on th added a number of my characters to their "inspiration" folder. Click on profile and get greeted by the "don't get inspired by my characters" bs. A week later I checked on em just to see two of my characters as impim myos. Then got blocked for nsfw art I made.
It's only wrong by their standards, typically. You can't steal an idea that's been done hundreds of times before. To be truly original, you can take a basic aspect, and mesh together two or three other original medias to make something new, as it is your taste, a collective.

These artists demand you invent a new fucking color or get out of their imaginary world. I get it when kids do this, cause we were all dumb kids. It's embarrassing that the majority is adults who do this.

I understand in these situations and ridiculous number of warnings every toyhou.se user's page has, but people need to detach themselves from the love of their work or collection of colorful dogs... at least once in a while. Yes, what we create is personal, and it means a lot to us, but it can also have that same value and meaning to someone else.

Unless someone is just copying the character directly, giving no credit and trying to profit off of it, it shouldn't be a big deal, but it is, sometimes even moreso then someone profiting off of it. They're STeAling mY cLosEd speciEs.

Grem2 are chicken rabbits, Chimereons are colorful chameleons with paws. Hoodjinx, impims, and cccats are essentially the same design wise; all three bare the same hood aspect or eye/face in mouth design.

Whaddya do. Even in the Chimereon group, you choose to void a design, the mods will say yeaah you gotta remove the paws but we don't have control over what you actually do.

(Then WHY make it a closed species in the first place. You don't need to document every damn design. But this is a weird business with more stupid artists pressured by bigger artists to pay them currency to add a glittery ass on a sushidog drawing.

looks like Phloxebutt is back, giving us those good, expensive designs for spooky month.

I feel like she only shows up when she needs money then dips. She knows they are gonna sell.

Closed Species are a stupid idea as a concept, I really only learned about it literally 2 years ago and nowadays I constantly have half a mind to make my own version of each one worth a damn just for fun. I'm not allowed to make my own Primagen or Orcadragon? Try to stop me then. Being blacklisted isn't really much of a problem, whether it's commissions or being commissioned, I rarely get any even if I offer 'em frequently, and even if I can get a comm from an artist, I'm always too late in confirming if I can afford it by a single day, or a couple hours, etc.
Atm I'm making an Orcadragon gal, am unsure if the creator of the species still does it anymore, or what the drama around it is, were they mentioned earlier? I mostly just skimmed the highlights.
I'm aiming for the character to dress sort of like a punk rocker, but I'm unsure atm, Indecision is a bitch.

Reading about Closed Species is really interesting though, and it's massively fascinating to me how some artists can be so talented, yet shoot themselves in the dick with unnecessary worry that can't entirely be good for their health or even career.

I’m surprised Dreamies are not mentioned as often in this thread because those things were infamous for costing near 1 grand for a drawing of a basic chibi. The artist made call out posts and self victimizing posts every other week at least about every potential ‘copy’, AKA any femboy design with big ears. Only friends were allowed to make somewhat similiar designs. Everyone else was put on exhile because, ORIGINAL.

Was on a discord server someone posted a fanart of a protogen. Remembered it was a closed specie, got corrected that was the primagen and protogen are ''open''. Obviously I said the whole concept behind 'closed specie' is silly. I ruffled some feather of few that were pro or adhered to this community.
So I argued with them about the absurdity of the concept. Most of their argument can be summarized as ''respect the author UWU'' brushing away any reasoning logic that make the drama inevitable

If people don't want others to mess with their creation, don't upload it.

The Protogen/Primagen fandom is the second-worst OC donut-steel species I know of besides Avali (not a Closed Species, but the brief summary is they're a flavor-of-the-month thing from a Starbound mod). This is solely because of how widespread they are. They seem to proliferate into non-Closed-Species and even non-furry spaces (mainly videogame communities) more than any other one of these.

I don't think I've never seen anyone with a Mignyan in the wild, for example, but I've seen at least 5 people with Protogen or Primagen OCs across various communities. You see a shitload of Protogens in VR Chat, as well as Avali. I'm fairly positive that a lot of those random "beating up a furry" memes you see originating from VR games have Protogen model ragdolls.

At the end of the day though I couldn't tell you why that is. Avali obviously come from a videogame mod, so they make sense to appear in videogame communities, but Protogen? They seem incredibly unappealing design-wise.

Avali were originally made in Spore before someone decided to try and get them into Starbound. I think there was a creature or race contest or something to make them official too but something else got voted into the game so they were kicked down to popular mod status. They've been around for a long time though and given the proliferation of other popular species from that era like Sergals it makes sense that they're all over the goddamn place now.

From what I saw, protogens seemed to get popular around the same time that people were really getting into putting LED and display mask stuff into fursuits. Going to a furry con and seeing someone with a light-up LED mask capable of expression options in a veritable sea of cum-stained faux fur and bad colors was bound to get attention and their popularity exploded in what felt like overnight due to that.

Both species have got strong gamey/techy aspects to their design so it makes complete sense they'd appeal primarily to nerds.

Protos and Angel Dragons are so massively popular, I still don't understand it much myself. 'Fluff Dragons' all tend to look similar in the end for the most part. I recall Weed-dragons were a thing for a while too among stoner types, literally just dragons with nug horns and leaves on the tail tips. Hell, Chakats were stupid popular for a while even though it was just cat-taurs from space.

Angel Dragons probably baffle me the most, sergals too. At least sergals had a wide lore behind them, but they're really very basic designs. Micks other robotic species have REALLY nice designs but you never see anyone caring about them. I never really see people who actually care about the lore behind stuff like AD's and sergals, they just tend to think they look neat and that's where the appeal ends. Avalis fall victim to that too, as I don't often see people who care about the scifi aspects. Very barebones bases for people to slap colours and decals on.

I just don't get how people can be so horribly defensive over what are basically are 'fluff dragons' because they've been around for years before AD's and Sergals were things. I personally think the lore and worldbuilding is a cool thing to see in species, but if people don't care to really abide by it and just use it as another "is me :)" fursona with nothing else to it except a design, there's really no point.

I think to a lot of folk, the appeal of open species is just that - They're open, and they tend to have easy to find/use bases that a lot of young furs who don't draw can fill in and feel they've accomplished something. Which would explain the garish designs many have, too.

From my understanding of the circumstances the devs didn't want to deal with a digitigrade race since all their sprites are designed for an assumption of plantigrade appearance. I've heard the rumor that it was because he asked to be paid for their inclusion in the game but I came late to the drama and I don't see any evidence of that being true.

Also the developer quit making the Starbound mod because he stopped liking Starbound and really disliked the autistic Starbound Avali "community." He hasn't touched the game or his species in years and it's effectively been hijacked by furries.

Let's not forget that the primagen/protogen mods had an issue with fat protogens for a while and there was a movement (mainly on amino) to "free the protogen species" so that tards can have their morbidly obese protogen oc. I believe the mods have since given up on moderation of the species though.

No archive for any of this cause it was started in a very very old (2019 ish) telegram chat that has since been deleted and amino is a nightmare to navigate.

I have some Dutch Angel Dragons and one Protogen. I never gave a fuck about the shit ton of rules that Dutches have to be hones...And yes, the toxicity that resulted in response was golden. Mainly because I gave my main character a muzzle ring before Ino lifted that r3tarded rule...And yes that included targeted harassment because one idiot thought my Dutch based on the Digimon Magnadramon ripped off hers that was based on the same Digimon. True autistic rage.

Give it as many muzzle rings as you can.

Avalis are just the latest "cute" fad that every snowflake furry jumps to now that kobolds are commonplace and canine species are routinely mocked.

did you hear of bkdk? a proshipper very into bakudeku that managed to put their ship as dekudogs in various cs including dainties and chimerons and that managed to get two (!) different psas because they're (very) horny on main.
https://archive.ph/zBxMg + https://archive.md/tUZ3k
(there's lots of nsfw content in the links, btw.)
This has been the most interesting part of this thread for me. Bakudeku shippers are already the most insufferable people online, now imagine making them your whole personality and being a furry? Too bad they don’t produce enough milk for their own thread this is hilarious.
