Agreed. Hating Nazis is a very radical and unpopular position, takes a lot of courage.
I'll date myself but I remember when it was not just cool but had nothing to do with politics, growing up with BJ and Indy they fight nazi and don't afraid of anything.

No one really got into the nuance it was just "cool dude hit man in Hugo Boss suit"

Thread tax, I actually would like to see him tackle one of the real Duke side scrollers. Seeing him do Deus Ex would be hilarious but it's got a ton of jank that could be fun and him melting down about how the game was basically "Alex Jones was right about everything simulator" would be funny.

The Nazis made Mussolini uncomfortable.

They’re still downplaying about the Totenkopf, too. "Actually its an ancient Prussian symbol.” It’s also the same thing pirates use. It's the universal symbol for “don’t drink this”.

To my mind, the only guys who ever got close to that were Papa Doc’s foot soldiers in Haiti. They dressed up like skeletons to scare farmers. "You're not safe from us, even in the afterlife."

I liked his Bio-Menace and Jazz Jackrabbit videos... but is there really that much to say about those Duke Nukem platformers? It’s like doing a video essay about the Apple II Castle Wolfenstein. Congratulations, you found the missing link between Pong and Half-Life.

I played Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway, and honestly, it’s astonishing that Gearbox and Pitchford were behind it, given just how mature and respectful the game was in terms of its portrayal of WWII.
To be fair, Pitchford was probably being tardwangled hard here since Gearbox had no reputation at this time beyond being the studio who did a Half-Life expansion pack and did the PC Halo port (poorly).

The Nazi bit irks me because it's symbolism for the other human survivors, the Lost Tribe is them, not Jews. Nimdok knew about AM's backdoor password and the Moon colony but forgot it over time, the Nazi thing is part his subconciousness hallucinating, part AM trying to learn about both so he can... take a wild guess. I don't think the video mentions that.

I guess Ellison being Jewish couldn't think of anything more horrifying than Mengele's understudy. There's tons of other ways that would be somewhat original, like Nimdok working in Moscow's NKVD torture dungeons (barely anyone even knows those existed) or being a doctor on "humanitarian" missions where the true purpose was experimentation on natives.

There's nothing about Nimdok in the story FYI, just that AM whisks him sometimes for vague special tortures for some reason.

I thought of it as more literal, no golem but Nimdok have cooperated with the Nazis to save his skin and part of his discoveries were the groundwork for AM and the remaining humans suffering.

It's both. Nimdok worked for Nazis on his own violition, even send his own parents to the camps, and the Lost Tribe refers to the last humans alive in cryostasis on the Moon, which AM doesn't know about. The whole thing is AM putting him in a simulation based on his memories, hoping Nimdok remembers (thus informing AM of both which would be a Bad Thing). I doubt Nimdok would be granted a blank pardon in exchange for continuing his discoveries, he's no Werhner von Braun.

Ellen's scenario tells that she graduated around 20xx, so it means Nimdok would have to be 100+ years old... actually that's possible since he made the milky fluid that stops aging. What has he been doing for those 80 years, hiding in Argentina while cutting off spines of kidnapped children in spare time?

In a game where Gorrister powers up a ship by electrocuting animals and Benny eats a baby alive without flinching, Natzees are the most evil thing. Give me a break, Civvie.

That's a pretty cool theory, don't remember if Nimdok knows about the moon or not.

Tbf, within the game one could argue that the Mengale experiments are the most evil. Other survivors/constructs actions are either more personal or coerced into them, and the AI are insane. History wise you either have the Japanese actions in China or fucked up historical mass punishments.

IIRC it's not specified if he does, he certainly does know AM's master password so it's possible. The other 2 AIs tweaked AM's simulations, it's possible they inserted a vague reference to the moon but why would they do that is a better question; when asked they tell you all moon colonist are dead when they're obviously not, so they obviously don't want you to know about it.

Sure, but it's pretty lame especially from someone like Harlan Ellison.

The next video will be on classic doom wad's

Judging by the thumbnail, it looks like at least the Aliens, Evil Dead, and Batman TCs are getting a mention. I'm surprised he hasn't done a series on Ashes yet. Between Ashes 2063, Afterglow, and Hard Reset (and Dead Man Walking I guess), there's plenty of good gameplay and easy commentary for him. The trilogy is easiest my favorite GZDoom mod.

Unrelated note, but I wonder if Civvie will cover Blood again since Marrow is dropping with the new Blood port. I'm somewhat curious to see how the source code is and if they change/"fix" any gameplay quirks.

Isnt there a difference between the totenkopf and any standard skull and crossbones?
If you use the totenkopf and wanna die on the hill of "no bro it's just the poison symbol stop whining" thats on you

Yeah, from casual check on google image they're similar but distinct the same way Buddhist swastika and Nazi swastika are. Very hard to confuse if you're not functionally naive.
