I think this really confirms what I was suspecting, Civvie legit ran out of boomer shooters to review and is now going for other famous games of by gone eras. I dont necessarily dislike this but it is bittersweet none the less, this was sadly inevitable. That isnt to say I dont think he wont find something FPS related but he is def. likely saving the ones he has left to make them last a bit
Dont think he ran out, theres plenty of those for him to grab and play. Really, I think just like with the Suffering, the guy is trying to play other games that arent just an FPS. Which, hey commendable him wanting to spread out other things, but like the Suffering video..mmmmm..he aint very good at it.

Civvie's style does feel more at home with the FPS genre at the very least. He seemed to really be into that microcosm where it just seemed Carmack just had his finger on every pie (which led to him becoming that recurrent joke, of which we almost never get it today, at least not naturally as Civvie just suddenly decides to mention Carmack even if he has nothing to do with it).

Perhaps his humor and "review" style just fits the more fast paced nature of a FPS while games of other genres force him to slow down or do things that he isnt quite used to.

As we both said, its admirable he is trying to branch out but he should listen to the criticism if he wants to improve.

Edit: I suppose he didnt review the Rage games but lets be extremely fucking honest here, he knows that the punchline for both games will be that they arent BAD but they are very forgettable tech demos that dont really stand out on anything (either because Id themselves did certain things better in their other IPs or other companies did) and just seem to be a Mad Max game altered just enough so they cant get a plagiarism lawsuit dropped on them

Theres also the Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth game (which I thought was gonna be his Halloween choice), FEAR2, Cultic Ep 2, Forgive me Father 2, Alice Madness Returns, doing Deus Ex eventually, the new Robocop Game, Stubbs the Zombie would prob be in his wheelhouse as well, any of the new Wolfenstein Games.

Really should have been, feels rather pointless to go with a horror point and click, even a pretty iconic one like IHNMAIMS. Even more if he wasnt going all at it with the macabre non-PC nature of it.
doing Deus Ex eventually

You know, Im surprised that the announcement of that awful looking remaster didnt push Civvie into finally doing a review of it.

Maybe he'll do it after it comes out so he can throw shade at it while focusing on the original? It would raise the important question that remasters are good until they suddenly arent like in this case.

Im also surprised he didnt comment on the "Refreshed Supply" situation, unless he did already on social media...
any of the new Wolfenstein Games

Man, Im curious as to what Civvie will say about New Colossus...

Just caught up on the last 4 videos after not really watching Civvie in a while.

I think it's just a smart play; he's been sounding more and more tired of doing jank, he's been sounding frustrated at how oversaturated boomer shooters are as a genre, he sounds like he has remaster/remake fatigue - so he's opened up the door to give himself more variety, which will help him stay a bit more sane and gets a bit more longevity out of the youtuber thing since I'm assuming that's his full time job now.

It's a good idea, but I'm still not going to go out of my way to watch him: All the jokes about how much he hates the job got old ages ago, and he's going way too hard into the breakaway gags. Not hating on all the effort it takes to make those skits but man it feels like Family Guy or TGWTG now.

It's not like he didn't do a Point and Click shtick for Halloween beforehand, but IHNMAIMS is barely a video. You might as well told ChatGPT to read a walkthrough while going Reddit Amirite/Yikes every time it even touches something slightly controversial.
, in fact a lot of the horror community are full of thin skinned faggots, paradoxically
It's the usual blight of trannies moderating the community to a parody of itself. You can have (or even be criticized if you don't include) pedophilia in your content, but god forbid you misgender a person.

Not that the boomer shooter community is any different. Body horror is totally acceptable, but god forbid you'd look sexist.

That personally have been going somewhat downhill for a while, this year especially.

Ironically it reminds me a bit of AVGN, you can tell where a lot of his reactions are legit or exaggerated and a lot of them are the latter today.
It feels like he lost his edge from early videos. I'll blame his troon friends from Discord, or maybe Civvie is just burned out..

If Civvie’s to be believed, he can’t monetize movie reviews, and GmanLives already strip-mined every shooter worth talking about, so what he’s doing now is basically charity work. There’s only so far “love of the game” can take a YouTube channel in 2025. Personally, I’d rather see him go off on something he hates. The reverent “love letters” to old classics feel redundant, everyone knows those games inside and out.

I disagree with the Shillman/Cuckie11 dichotomy. They've both got their shticks and there's a lot of light between their video styles - gman does these slightly deeper-than-skin surface analysis of new games he was paid to asked to talk about, and Civvie as far as I can tell just picks whatever he wants based on what he seems into or whatever his gay fucking discord clique of new blood circle jerkers are recommending that day.

As usual I find myself on the opposite of the thread re Civvie's recent videos. I thought the IHNM video was done pretty well but the game is so dense and well-written that I don't think it lends itself to his format, especially when he starts doing some semi-performative BIG YIKES stuff. We get it Civvie, you hate da nahtzees, you don't have to keep reminding us. I think the problem is that like others have pointed out, it's clear the stuff he has spent tons of time with and loves and can talk confidently about versus the stuff he just played recently a la Gman and is now providing his own style of commentary to.

The former has a limited well to draw from. I'd be scared what a Deus Ex video from him would look like after his iconoclastic take on HL2.

So I decided to install that Extra Crispy texture pack for Blood II and yeah, it makes it look and play better, but I can’t shake the feeling that the single player campaign was a misfire.

The first few levels are kind of Duke Nukem-y. Then you start trudging through the endless “CabalCo” maps that look like Perfect Dark and Daikatana asset dumps. The first Blood lived in this timeless horror universe, not quite the 1900s but not really "modern". I don't like this new Caleb, he reminds me of a Quake 2 grunt. They also gave him more lines, like quoting The Sound of Music for no reason.

Nothing can fix Blood 2 outside of a gut-to-the-studs remake of it. Total disaster that blows my mind was even released. I remember playing the demo on a PC Gamer CD and thinking okay, this is... clunky but not the worst I guess. And then we got the full game and it was then worst I guess.

Besides, we've got Death Wish (with every map being lovingly reexamined again, currently!) which is the true sequel until someone at Jewtari decides there's enough interest to throw a third game into development with some devs that played Doom 2016.

Rewatched civvie's borderlands movie review and him mentioning he actually enjoys borderlands makes me wish he would do videos about them considering he's already covered every other Pitchford related title.

Would be funny to see how long he could go with giving flowers to any and all gearbox devs he thinks deserves them before mentioning the greasy bastard.

I’m honestly kind of shocked Randy’s still running things. His resumé: “I made Sandy Petersen-ass Half Life levels for the Dreamcast,” and apparently that was enough to set him up for life.

Wrong. This 2005 game sold well and allowed Gearbox to make Borderlands.

It's a grease-terpiece. Randykino, if you will.

I played Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway, and honestly, it’s astonishing that Gearbox and Pitchford were behind it, given just how mature and respectful the game was in terms of its portrayal of WWII.
