Posting here because it's as close to a boomer shooter thread as we've got:
Nightdive is doing
another version of Blood Fresh Supply called Refreshed. Seems questionable though and unlike other times they've done this with games people already own (minus some notable exceptions) they're selling you the price to upgrade.
Of note it looks like they're bundling Deathwish (there's another episode coming???) and Marrow (which I never played but want to) into the package but beyond that it looks like a weird port for consoles mostly? I cannot imagine playing blood on a console unless they have some sort of rewind feature but even then... hoooo boy.
(Maybe I might do a boomer shooter dedicated thread...)
As a big Blood fan, I kind of hate this because Fresh Supply had potential but it kind of ended up a bit "ehhh" in terms of what it could have been in terms of replicating the OG experience when the source ports are based on unfinished source code (accidentally leaked I might add, it was a miracle we got this in the first place) that fans completed on their own to proximate as close as it could to the finished stuff.
Fresh Supply needed more updates to reach its true potential but Atari was a piece of fuck and decided that enough is enough and that Nightdive wasnt allowed to update the game further for some reason (Atari is oddly protective of Blood despite thei refusal to do anything with the IP, same goes to Warner Bros). Then Atari bought Nightdive and fans had hope this could lead into Fresh Supply getting updated again.
The monkey's paw curled and here we are, with something that sounds promising until it dawns on you that this is a paid update (and F.S owners only get an exclusive 66% discount). In the end, this feels more like a "sequel/remake" of Fresh Supply than an update, how else would they get Blood on consoles?
Either way, this feel scummy and compared to every Id game remaster being for free to those that owned the OG releases, this is just insulting. I already found it a bit iffy with the System Shock 2 remaster not being free but I guess I handwaved that away as S.S 2 being a newer game but Blood is an even older game so they are charging full price for a game that has been out for almost 3 decades, the freaking nerve.
I could blame Nightdive for this but Im sure they did their best as it really seems this is a corporate decision as Id was rather chill and pretty much gave their remasters away for free to people who had already invested money in the original releases, meanwhile it seems most other companies want a bigger cut even if a lot of these IPs havent been touched in years if not decades.
Part of me feels like I should buy it just so we can have a release with a proper fully updated source code and to remind Atari and Warner that Blood is still a profitable IP but on the other, it would just feel like approving these scummy corporate decisions, doesnt it?
