Wonder when Strife will see its day in the sun. Could be a weird one if he didn't grow up with it. I never knew it existed until scumming abandonware websites what feels like a decade after it came out. Bizarre game.

Yeah, I played it and it's pretty good. Didn't go to the good ending though once I found it's just a bit more filler before the same set of levels.
I think I broke the gameflow and somehow ended up in the final battle of the game. I didn't cheat but I think I went from point A to Z in a way that the game didn't anticipate. By that point I didn't have the big guns and just kind of soft-locked it for lack of a better phrase.

Someone familiar enough with Doom might see the novelty in it. And he's already covered Jedi Knight which always seemed like a game that some had Strife-like elements cut out. I think he commented on features/quests being cut in that video?

There's also Shadowcaster from 1993. Wolf3D engine. Made by Raven and it got pretty good reviews at the time.

Oh fuck, are we going back to Catacomb Abyss??

I could NEVER get Shadowcaster working and I had it on a CD with Ultima: Savage Empire, Space Hulk and some other games as part of a Sound Blaster promo thing. It haunted me because ironically the game wouldn't run thanks to incorrectly configured sound settings that nothing I did could ever work. Kids have no idea how easy they have it that they don't have to fuck around with IRQ and other things in a low-tech DOS setup box and pray to God that when you have things lined up and hit "test" you hear some delicious SFX.

Yeah, absolutely agree. Dreamweb...

John Carmack has revealed himself to be literally Hitler.

I'm just hoping that this will finally put an end to Civvie's stale "interdimensional technogod John Carmack" jokes.

Lol, Carmack was always a faggot, but him going to a retarded thing know as "based con" is some high tier cringe. Then again, what should I expect from a guy who has all the social ability of roadkill.

That game was fucking brilliant right up until you meet the giant flying robots at the end of the game that die in a million hits and then it's a bunch of horrible industrial areas with tons of enemies and no ammo.

Reminds me of the meme of "Game devs in 1990's" vs. "Game devs in 2010's" and then a person saying modern games are bad because DLC.
An unknown plus size activist that no one has ever heard of won't take Carmack's convention plans sitting down! She's also queer, btw. I wish I was so marginalized and victimized that I could try to boss strangers around and believe that I have the moral authority to shut down what they do in their private lives.

This was after he clarified that his interest lies in the attending authors of hard sci-fi with a sprinkle of libertarianism, it's apparently a niche genre of fiction that he really likes but it is hard to come by these days... for some reason it is completely ignored by Big Sci-Fi and the reason he found these new books/authors is because of people on twitter directly telling him to check out so-and-so.

Last year he also talked to the guy running Basedcon about the edgy marketing and how it hurts/taints the whole thing.
