He's got voice lines in one game, it's like a Heretic/dark fantasy style shooter. Unless civvie added those as a goof.
CM doesn't seem to have any lines in his Graven cameo. All of that was just Civvie Katie editing for a bit.

Oh, and in the process of researching this, I found out that Civvie's head shows up in Nightmare Reaper. So... There's that.

Nightmare Reaper also has some graffiti that can show up in the sewer tileset ("Sorry Civvie") and a nod to his Andrew Hulshult-inna-trashcan gag in secret rooms (he did the game's music, of course). Most of the references that games makes are saved for the secret rooms, though, like pictures of the devs, bowls of porridge, or a shotgun, chainsaw, and a copy of the Necronomicon; it's the usual spate of references to old pop culture and/or boomer shooters, and for better or worse Civvie's become part of that.

I've got nothing against easter eggs and references, like we all grew up with Blood and Duke doing it (I'll grant that they weren't doing explicit nods to media personalities they may or may not have known personally or covered their games before) but the second it becomes dick-sucking or self-referential is when it gets old for me. The New Blood/Oshry cult borders on this at times and curiously I know a few indie devs themselves who find the situation a bit incestuous too.

It's also a little questionable to me that meme-makers who just so happened to get famous (KinoFabino namely) are also included in this incestuous relationship.

It's a peculiar sort of contempt you start to develop when you realize boomshoot discourse gets largely decided less by media outlets and moreso by a handful of devs and shitposters in an incestuous, self-referential relationship.

Some days it seems like the ship of boomshoot is trying to navigate a river of soy between Scyllia and Charybdis.

Okay, so what are our media outlets? Gaming sites and journos that have pretty much lost all cred long ago? Places filled with twats like Reddit, Twitter, and this forum?

I completely stopped paying attention to media outlets in ~2012 and then the autism holy war just salted the earth. I honestly just look at Steam and check user reviews (negative ones are usually the most informative in my opinion) and follow suggested titles/genres. This forum is pretty good for recommendations now and then. If Gman or Civvie tip me off to something I appreciate it but always take youtubers with a heavy grain of salt, especially when they're big enough to move the needle significantly on sales.

Yes, each of those, although my point wasn't so much that all of those other sources would have had more credibility than the cult of personality we have now, but simply that there is no centralized entity with which to offer dissent and foster a healthier sense of difference in opinion.

But then again, even if there was at least one, central entity to oppose, it would still eventually give rise to this incestuous cult following all the same since that's exactly how we ended up here in the first place.

Maybe I'm just a bit disgruntled that the funniest funnymen who dictate whatever the current discourse is also lowkey like to push their political lean sooner or later, and inevitably end up taking themselves too seriously, or become contentious just for the sake of being contentious.

I think this is just an inevitable part of the ebb and flow of both content creation and the quality of the genres around which they revolve. Inevitably, the entertainer runs out of ways to be entertaining that pertains to the subject matter - and they try to entertain in other ways. This can work out great if they're a well-rounded human being, and they can take what they've learned in the content mills for whatever niche they had to some other interests of theirs, but it's that "well-rounded human being" part that often falls a little flat. Politics becomes an easy and attractive out for these types because it's really simple to get ass-pats for bathwater-temperature takes predicated on repeating whatever is popular, and that feeds into an ego - "by using my platform to talk about X, I'm really contributing something!" A few years down the line, and you get Armored Skeptic. Many such cases.

Boomershooters having had their renaissance a few years back have sortof already started to drift into the incestuous, repetitive murk that seems to take hold of most genres here and there throughout history, sortof like how capeshit died in the 90s (and I wish it stayed down) and fighting games dug their own grave in the 00s. It's been a good few years for the boomershoot design, but I'd expect it on the whole to start drifting further - and the people who rose to uh, 'prominence' around it to similarly become unmoored if there's nothing else in their wheelhouse.

The video itself is pretty good, though god damn those are some cringe references ranging from 2 year old to ten, the Undertale one was the worst. Also it would be probably better to Civvie to move to Mod reviews.
