The answer is yes, and a basic PSA AR is like $500. There's zero excuse to not have one.
A decent light is at least $80 (Monstrum Arcsaber 2400, comes with a pressure pad and mounting hardware), a decent red dot is $150 (Holosun HS403B), a decent sling is $30 (Magpul MS1 two-point sling). One might tack on an additional $50 to $75 for sling mounts and backup iron sights. That's a good fighting rifle for those on a budget.

In general, go over every aspect of your life and how would you manage it.
Water - distillation, cool, will you be able to get to the river and back safely with enough water? If not, look into rain collection.
Food - you can have it stockpiled, will it be safe to eat long term and will you be able to prepare it? If you intend to grow it, will you be able to stockpile it? Is it even worth it to grow it rather than stockpiling pate, flour, salt, rice, beans, dried meat, jam and fish?
Heating - how thermally isolated is your place? Does it get cold/hot and can you manage without heating/AC? If it's cold, consider a wood stove and a axe. If it's hot, well, hope that you live in a windy place and make a draft and cope with it. Also since you're near a river, consider getting mosquito nets.
Waste disposal - where and how? Because you certainly don't want to shit in your back yard, human feces stinks bad and isn't a safe fertilizer. Will you bury it? Do you have enough space to bury weeks worth of human refuse and trash? Will you just toss it out onto the street? Will your neighbors like that? Will you just burn it?
Also, another thing to ask yourself is what type of situation do you see happening? A full out warzone? Yeah, move the fuck out. Riots? Board up the windows and get fire extinguishers, bars on windows, a strong door and a tall fence.
Oh and also, stockpile medicine painkillers, medical alcohol, shit for common colds, stuff like that. And also if you intend to have women staying over, stockpile what they'll be needing.
Probably any form of metal container that won't corrode and leak into the water under typical conditions, such as stainless steel or copper. Just make sure it's pure, low salinity, free of chemicals that can activate corrosion like chlorine. It's going to be extremely expensive but I don't think anything else can be trusted. "Safe" plastic might work for short term storage, draining and refilling it with new water every few months.
Glass maybe? Switch to drinking/eating stuff that comes in glass bottles/jars and start filling them up with water. It's autistic, I know, but glass is pretty much the safest thing you can store water in.

PS - nighttime lights, get some way to illuminate shit in the night, a hand-held electric torch or a crank charged one maybe, I'm sure someone else can elaborate on this, but if you're expecting water to go out, you should also expect light to go out, and in that case, electricity is important for a lot of things, which include lighting.
Also learn to wash clothes by hand and look into hygiene without a lot of water. Also check what is being produced around you. If you have chemical intensive industries, you might get the East Palestine, Ohio treatment.

I don't think storing enough water for a few weeks in a bunch of jars is practical. And it might not be much cheaper than just getting a 55 gallon steel drum.

Don't make me tap it again.

I’m more worried about a totally incompetent response to a natural disaster, personally. But here’s a few things I’ve been doing:

- make friends with neighbors
- emergency food of types that I actually eat and cycle through (rice, pasta, beans, potatoes, onions, sardines, etc)
- several 5-gal carboys of water (that I use and cycle through)
- tent, down sleeping bags, camping stove, etc (that I use to go camping)
- gun (that I use for practice on a range)

Don’t get anything you won’t use anyway. I don’t think a civil war is imminent. But the recent news about FEMA being corrupt/broke has me concerned about the lead time for a competent disaster response and I think everyone should have about a week or two prepared in case of this.

I’ve been trying to find a decent size 1 sleeper tent I have enough room to move around and store gear in, a bivouac is too small. Trying to find a stealth camper tent is hard.

Have you looked into those hammock-tents? Even just a regular camping hammock with some mosquito netting could be okay. You lose a lot of heat to the ground at night and a hammock keeps you away from the ground and stops that. Plus, no need to carry a camping pad.

I’ll check that out, thank you friend! There’s a bunch of animals/insects I don’t want to bite me as well. How would you go about camouflaging that in the tree line? I guess you would layer the mosquito net and camo netting wouldn’t you.

Maybe, but I mentioned switching to eating/drinking stuff that comes in them. Water storage in glass then becomes a byproduct of eating something else, rather than a upfront purchase. And yes, it isn't the most practical, but you can guarantee you won't get any type of poisoning from glass bottles.

- make friends with neighbors
I can't agree with this enough. If you live in a city or metropolitan area, get to know your neighbors. One of my neighbors has chickens. His rooster screams all damn day. Rather than bitch about it, I rang his doorbell, got to know him, and now I buy eggs from him. They're cheap and way better than the store has. If shit goes south, I bet you I can still get eggs from him over everyone else because I bothered to establish a relationship with him.

Some of my other neighbors call me to help them move heavy stuff. Point is, get to know people around because it will make a difference.

Also, get fit. A fit human being is capable of much more in difficult situations and is much harder to kill.

Learn basic medical techniques/basic pharmacology. It's not hard and you can learn how treatment of minor things prevents much worse things from happening later.

Step one. You bought a Glock, so pull your pants up, turn the gun so the sights point upward.
Step two. Paint yourself white so people don't shoot your nergro ass on site.

First you need to design your flag designing your flag is very important in civil War 2 so you can look cool while committing war crimes against your enemies.
Step 2 is finding like-minded individuals and figuring out what you believe in and what you're going to be fighting for.
Step 3 is only one of you needs to have a large amount of firearms not all of you so that can be the guy usually has the most money I already have step one Step 2 and Step 3 covered

Step 4 is boogaloo
Step 5 is optional but come up with a cool name for your group no one wants to join random group number four they wanna join groups like the iron legion the black patriots the Tamil Tigers the 14th 88th white Liberation Army the secret division.
Branding is very important in civil conflict

you get extra points if you justify yourselves with religion or something

this is really important you need your designated completely and utterly sociopathic person to do horrible things to enemies to make them afraid of you this is very important in civil conflict no one is going to take anybody seriously who I civilly conducting themselves civil conflicts are dirty disgusting affairs were all rules of civility go out the window in the 1st 2 weeks

also I would suggest reading up on what actually goes on during a civil war there's a few good memories of people who lived through the yugoslavian wars
war of the flea is quite good
siege is not good
the diary of Che Guevara
most of the books were actually written by former Navy seals from Vietnam and not the wannabe CIA door kickers of today basically a lot of books on small infantry tactics sabotage or made explosives I have never used any of the knowledge I have gleaned from reading these books.
All of these books and recommendations are for educational purposes only I love the government

Do not get too preoccupied overthinking things. It is easy to do, and I find myself doing it from time to time.

Just focus on supplies for one week if you are starting from zero. I would rank these in order of importance as follows:

1. A firearm with appreciable stopping power, preferably semi auto. (ie. Do not get a 22LR firearm. 9mm luger pistol is basic, but ok)
1a. Some extra magazines and some extra ammo.
1b. A firearm cleaning kit, and some gun lube/oil.
2. Some people you can trust. Belonging to a group increases survival odds, assuming no one is stupid, irrational, or the group is too large.
3. Water
4. Dried food (ie. does not require refrigeration) + multivitamins
5. A shovel and a bucket for waste management. Most people do not think about this, but from a survival standpoint, it is vital to dispose of waste/garbage properly, away from your dwellings.
6. First aid medicine and supplies (any antibiotics, aspirin, soap, blood clotting agents, gauze, bandaids, tourniquets, tampons (military invention for bullet wounds), splints, Neosporin, surgical staples, etc)
7. Some kind of light source (eg candles, manually rechargeable emergency light)
8. Matches
9. Any kind of emergency radio or scanner (you will have to set up a scanner beforehand, and tune it to fire or police bands in your local area).
9. Batteries in common sizes.

Beyond this you are looking at long term survival. Things like generators, water distillation, gasoline storage for vehicles, etc. I am assuming you will already have basic commodities like blankets, a pot for boiling water, knives, a hatchet, etc.

If it comes to long term survival, we might all be fucked.

In the history of previous civilization collapse, the further away from other humans you are, the longer you will survive (ie hopefully you are not in a city).

Stay frosty.
