I think this relates to the OP. I believe that when one is in a belief system that traditionally teaches that sexual activity is evil under all but very limited circumstances and emphasizes shame and guilt, it can make sexual activity of all kinds all the more enticing to the point where they go overboard and exceed healthy moderation in them.

It's kind of like how in the Victorian era, showing off a little leg was considered highly scandalous because of the excessive modesty standards of the time.
