The Philippines is an Anglophone country (although Tagalog is widely used as well) where tribal loyalties still exist, Traditional Catholicism still has a strong hold of the county, and yet tech is a big deal. I'm guessing it has something to do with this. I plan to eventually visit the Philippines because I have this love of SE Asia. Honestly I like most Filipinos I meet, but this guy is weird.

I only ask because Homer was Filipino too. I was going to make a joke about how the US fucked these people up, but I think these two guys did it enough already.
 
Oh, bless this technology that gives worldwide voices to these little nuggets of entertainment who might otherwise have gone unnoticed jabbering quietly in an alleyway somewhere.

I spent a week in Manila - a limited exposure to the country. Poverty and inequality are rife there. Driving out to the airport, I'd pass concrete shanty towns, and then a BMW dealership in close proximity. The business district was heavily policed and guarded - armed guards on the doors of offices, shopping malls, and hotels. I couldn't enter my hotel without them first checking my bag. With this poverty, many Filipinos work abroad in nearby countries in Asia and the Middle East. Often they're treated like shit. I went via Abu Dhabi to Manila, and the gate in Abu Dhabi for my flight to Manila was pretty grim and overcrowded. One moment I'm in a shiny and fancy airport, the next I'm in a never-ending queue to get in to a room where I'd be sitting on the floor because of the lack of seating. Also no toilet in this area, and to go to toilet meant going back past security to piss and rejoin the crazy queue. Manila airport security is bizarre. I'm no expert but I know how metal detectors are supposed to work. These machines are very sensitive to motion - bump it and it'll trigger a false alarm. In Manila International they, for reasons, put a wooden box in the detector on to which people would have to walk. While going through, the vibrations from stepping on to the box would trigger the machine - leading to the person being hand-searched. This was comical to begin with. Then I noticed that they weren't even waiting for the machine to stop ringing before they'd bring the next person through, who would of course be searched because the machine was beeping its warnings. In short, the machine was pointless - they searched everyone coming through, so there was absolutely no point in having them walk through the machine.

If you do get around to visiting, be very aware of the legendary traffic of Manila. It took an hour to travel just 10 kilometres from my hotel to the airport. The Filipinos I met were great, but there's no doubting there are serious social issues. Social inequalities and religious fundies make for an awkward environment. Despite meeting some nice people there, I have no burning desire to return. Perhaps it's better outside of Manila. Whatever, It still doesn't explain why this boy is mental.

I think it's to do with that silver cleaner. It's probably why you're so pale and sweaty in that stoning vid too!
