ERP and gay operations
To be serious, DMs are a good way to share information either privately on-site or to avoid shitting up an unrelated thread; for example, for my Zengo OP I worked with a few people but we needed somewhere to discuss on site privately, as we knew Zengo was read the threads he was being discussed in (which weren't related to him at all but he got brought up).

There is a tendency to form insular DM chains that function much like your typical Discord circlejerk.
These often devolve into people sharing porn, blogposting, and ERPing. This is not a hypothetical, it happened several times on this very site.
Null is very protective of his site's image. When users are revealed to be degenerates, he feels it reflects poorly on him. So he warns people to stop doing braphog tranny ERP in DM chains (thus far the results are mixed).
The "DM rape" refers to the practice of inviting a person to a DM chain for the purpose of annoying them. It's possible to unsubscribe from a DM chain once you're invited, and as far as I know you cannot be re-invited after that, but a significant number of people is still annoyed by the practice.

Aha, thanks for clarifying.

I would suspect Kiwifarms user subset is like everyother user subset on the internet. But yes, people should behave.

You can now get alerts for tags and mentions in DMs. There are preferences to turn this off in your notifications area.
 
Can we get politsperg stickers in DMs? I understand stickies are a sticky subject for some since they stick to certain people the wrong way, but I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be allowed to :politisperg: in there.
Also having the smilies button for quick access would be nice for carpal tunnel prevention too.
