Cats making friends?

Today my cat got loose and I finally found him on the neighbor's side hanging out with the neighbor's cat, literally just laying there next to him. Do cats make friends? I've never seen non-kin male cats just sit around together.

I thought the same thing until my mom gave me one of her cats who no longer got along with all of her other animals. I used to live near 100s of strays and would have gladly invited them into my home but my cat refused she HATES any other creatures except me. She bit my girlfriend on more than one occasion, once when I was with them and once when she was watching my cat for me. My cat would attack other animals if I brought them near her. She is basically attached at my hip and follows me around the house even. I had the opportunity to retire very early so atleast i don't leave her at home alone during long work days or anything, she is basically with me all day long except the few hours here and there whenever I do go out.

I honestly think my cat would be completely happy to be alone with just me for the rest of her life. She hates everyone and everything else but is a sweetheart to me it is really weird she is like a Familiar or something. I bet there are other cats out there like that.

True, obviously it varies on a case by case basis, but I was on mobile and the site barely tolerates that.

I'd also note that I haven't seen any SCIENTIFIC proof of that, but more meant to point out the myth of cats as a totally anti-social beast that hates everything and barely tolerates humans for food is just that, and some cats do better with others, especially youngin's.

oh yeah for sure my moms two Old Lady Cats basically live for each other, she calls them salt and pepper sometimes lol one is white and one is grey and they are always snuggling together, they are the oldest of all of her cats, both around 17-18 years old and very sweet old cats :} I wouldn't ever split them up that would be horrible

I wish I had a second one to go with him, but now that he's an adult, I'd be afraid that a second cat would aggravate him more than please him. That's the thing with cats, they bond with litter mates but not so much with strangers. He was one, lost, that just wandered into my yard as a kitten. He had no fear of people and was clearly domesticated.

How well is your mom holding up? Just in case I wanna see her cats.
