Not exactly a rare thing with Kevin but this sounds like Night-Pyranik, the creator of the No-Hope mod who also tried to add the option to change spawnrates of individual item categories. Kevin smited his PR for no reason, so he made the There is Still Hope fork which died within a few months.
Yeah, that's the one. I didn't follow the details too closely (monitoring that whole scene just frustrates me), but I remember just being baffled at how arbitrary the guy is. I did find it funny that they dumped the game on Steam for $20. It'd be hilarious if another group did the same thing with a fork that cut out a bunch of the bullshit, assuming that there's no legal bar to that.

For anyone who's new to CDDA, I recommend Cataclysm Bright Nights over CDDA because CBN doesn't have nonsensical mega autistic features or toxic communities full of pedo communist trannies, while implanting original features like electric grid or better backpack system. The best part is, they don't celebrate the Child Rape Month (June) like CDDA does. No gay event, no rainbow-colored icon, no nothing.

For me, CDDA died after the stupid tranny abortion chimp-out drama where lots of people left or got kicked out for wrongthinks. They even banned the biggest contributor of Ultica tileset because he "violated trans rights" (which is eventually a complete lie, the real reason is, he was hanging out with banned people in other communities and the tranny moderator went HRT rage over it). Dark days ahead indeed.

(they are so totally 100% a tranny no wombman plays this shit)
I suspect wormgirl is eventually a woman, and most likely white too. It's hard to believe a tranny lover woke nutjob like Kevin shit on a fellow tranny.

Magiclysm is sadly unupdated on Bright Nights though.
Magical Nights is the successor. It will be mainlined soon.

Wow the demon spiders were genuinely a problem, funny (but expected) to see that at the top of his list

TBH I liked the autistic food mechanics (which IIRC BN simplifies.) I may try it out one day though, I haven't updated from the 2021 version of CDDA in order to avoid the poz lol

I think I'll try and give the Arcana mod a look at, see what I can do with it; this and Bright Nights do sound a bit more up my alley. The fact that the devs for DDA are so troon-supporting sounds like a perfectly valid reason to drop said game and switch to Bright Nights; I get supporting a political belief, but when it starts to negatively affect the development of a game, then it becomes a problem.

It seems like every update since 0.C, DDA has been ripping out or nerfing things I used to have fun doing. One of my favorite things used be building 3x4 UTVs out of military vehicle parts. Now I need 400 pounds of welding wire to build repair a vehicle.

I've been working on making my own little mod to try and peel some of that stuff out, but I'm not super experienced with JSON and all. Things like the 700 gay flags and stocking variations of said flags. But my god, there's just so much now. Just the other day I was playing I noticed graffiti on a building saying "X is a heteronormative bigot" and a newspaper article talking about Contrapoints of all things. It's almost parody.

BN does have autistic nutrition mechanics, it's just the "simplified nutrition" (which disable vitamins) mod is turned on by default. You turn that off, and it's basically the same as DDA (except there is no obesity mechanics). IMO you should at least try BN, it will feel a natural jump/upgrade from 2021 version.

I know a guy who temporarily removed a NPC from DDA because her quest tree was broken. Naturally, mods went insane because that character happened to be a brown Muslim woman. I'm curious how they react if you release that mod.

We really need an Islamic fundamentalist faction badly.

Yeah I have been trying it with mixed results. The redesigned (removed?) temperature simulation doesn't seem to have significantly reduced lag, but it sure has made your first minute in game a painful experience (you instantly get frostbitten and lose a bar off of each of you limbs until the temperature normalizes, not sure what that's about.)

Also no obesity mechanic? Why? It wasn't an irritating mechanic and personally I found it kind of interesting to balance. Also, having a slightly chubby character can be an advantage, since you can miss a few meals with no issue. I mean, maybe it was a little unbalanced but uhhh so's the rest of the game! Put down the fork chubby!

Honestly one thing the game desperately needs is for mechanics like temperature to affect enemies in the same way they affect players. Deep frozen labs at -400 F having ambulatory zombies in them is just stupid. This is one of those places where the touted 'realism' might actually be nice to have.

removed a NPC from DDA
A year or two ago someone made a fork focused on re-adding Lua support and improving NPCs. It also deleted a few of the refugee center NPCs and removed a few books, which led to the dev instantly getting banned from the DDA reddit and labeled a racist. Touching any of Erk's OCs is not allowed.

Also no obesity mechanic? Why?
It's deemed too little gain for too much annoyance. Korg's hyper-autistic stomach contents system has had a very very rough history, with 5 years of growing pains that spawned systems like weariness and cardio to get it into a playable state. BN just cuts out the digestion part and makes eaten food instantly turn into calories.

This is a very bizarre issue that I'm not able to replicate, even when stripping naked. Is this only in specific starting scenarios? Additionally, what's your world's initial day and season length set to?

Definitely agree. I can understand how it could affect performance but at the very least faking it by making deep-frozen or even frozen labs have frozen-solid zombie statues instead of actual zombie enemies would be cool.

Weariness was cool, I've never heard about cardio but the last version of cdda I played was a 2021 or 2022 build. I liked the delay, and the way you could trick your character into feeling less hungry by eating cardboard and such.

So far as I know (unless I accidentally changed something) I used the defaults. It was very bizarre, had a string of normal lab playthroughs (that I wound up resetting due to dead ends) and then afterwards a string of consistently frozen playthroughs (that required quick reset.) It was unnaturally cold, instant devastating frostbite. I might try creating another world, maybe something is just internally wrong with the world data? Frustrating.

Tried with a new world with copied settings, problem disappeared. Very strange. Glad I can do a proper run though

Just gonna tap into my necromancy powers to revive this thread briefly so I can say, well fucking said. DDA used to be great, when they removed LUA it was the start of the shitstorm to come. There was a fork called Delta I was looking forward to for a while now (development is slow but the promise is there, they're making tools that'll make dialogue and other things straight forward rather than fucking with json files for ages, among other QOL features they have planed, but development is borderline dead), only reason I heard of it was because when the dev made a post showing it off everyone jumped down this guy's throat. He wanted to remove the massive amount of bloat in the game so he first started with the Refugee Center. As he removed an NPC he accidentally removed an item connected to that NPC (another NPC he removed was that bisexual NPC in the bathroom) and uh...went as well as you'd expect. Instant ban (was unbanned eventually), Delta discussion is banned (for a time), fork was memory holed, only mention it ever got was on this 2ch. Dev is too based for this world anyway, dev liked 3D printed guns, wouldn't have fit in with this faggots.

Another reason to stick to CBN, some retard is using "gunbroker" to decide which guns to axe. ERK (dev) is doing damage control.

Lol.

Keep in mind, they've wanted to remove guns due to "maintenance" but instead have been...adding guns that are supposedly harder to maintain to replace them. CDDA dev moment.

Seconding the Bright Nights recommendation; I've been sinking ungodly amounts of time into my latest character. I've reached the point where I have ten in most skills and can kill kevlar hulks with my bare hands, but I'm still enjoying myself collecting every gun in the game and hunting down rare bionics and gear, along with brewing gallons of mutagen to turn myself into a demigod. I'll do the ending once the next stable build drops; until then, mankind will simply have to wait.

Some may think it casualizes the game too much, but a recent change upped the focus regeneration by a factor of ten. Together with an item I found that passively gives me +100 morale, it enabled me to raise my skills to the cap pretty fast. The way I see it, this just means taking Fast Learner is no longer mandatory if you want to raise your combat skills in a reasonable amount of time. As for my criticisms, I think armor in general may be too overpowered; survivor suits got buffed a couple of times and now it's really easy to become nigh-impervious to melee attacks. Guns still fuck you up proper though.

I'm fairly new to the game, only been playing for around a year. I'm excited to try out the mods like Magiclysm or No Hope. I guess there's nothing stopping me from doing that now, but I have a bad habit where I constantly reroll characters instead of finishing what I start. Maybe in the case of Cataclysm it's acceptable, since I'm already an angel of death. Definitely enabling bionic slots for my next world.

Also for those who are getting tired of doing the same old lab start, aircraft carrier starts in BN are even more sadistic.

Funny, that's my latest one. Started off as a helicopter pilot, stole as Osprey, and fucked right off. Ran out of fuel and crash landed in the middle of a field like those randomly generated crashes.

Kek. Also, it's funny how the only criticism I see of BN is CDDA fans seeing the github and laughing when they see something removed, usually going "I thought this fork was made because CDDA removed things, now this fork is too!" like it's some sort of own.

Started a new BN run, trying out Silat this time. Martial Arts are definitely one of my favorite corners of Cataclysm; what martial arts you have or find can do a lot to influence how you play; the fact that having a style that supports a weapon you might not have otherwise considered encourages experimentation.

When I first started playing Cataclysm, many years ago, I would invariably go for Niten; it makes powerful weapons even more powerful. But after a few runs with that, I got frustrated because it's fundamentally a mid to end-game style. I switched to Ninjutsu, since the stealth bonus is great and the crit works well with many different weapons. From there I did a lot of Eskrima builds, since it's hard-hitting and, more importantly, works well with a lot of early game weapons - which has inspired me to try out Silat, which also supports a lot of early-game weapons.

What styles do you all like?

The calories system is fucking gay and i hate that if you bitch about it on the forums people will say that you don't appreciate the reeeeeelism and point you to mods that remove all survival mechanics altogether.

@Darksy DePhil Has that changed again recently in DDA? I remember some really weird shit with it back in 2020 or 2021; a combination of getting full very easily (via volume) and wild miscalculation of calorie consumption produced some strange results i.e. you'd waste away despite eating 2000+ calories a day while sitting around reading books. I seem to recall seeing someone actually posting a bugfix about it, pointing out that their model had a person walking down a hall burning more calories than top atheletes running Olympic sprints and that contributor was told to fuck off by the devs, which seems on-par for the last 5-6 years of DDA development.
