Cats don't pee on things arbitrarily. If your cats pee on something, they're sending you a message. Maybe you didn't clean the litter box recently enough (BTW, it's not enough to scoop the poop/pee-litter out, you actually have to throw it all out and disinfect it AT LEAST once a month). Maybe the cat is stressed about something. Maybe it's a medical issue. Whatever it is, cats are clean creatures and peeing (if it's neutered) outside the box means something is wrong that demands your attention.
Low-quality dry food can give cats urinary infections. Buy a higher grade of food to avoid that problem. Cats like wet food but are extremely picky. You may have to buy single tins and experiment to find the brands of wet food that your cat will accept.
Cats are as playful as you make them. People think cats are unplayful/aloof because they expect them to be. Unlike dogs, cats bond with specific individuals and then restrict their playfulness to those people. If you play with kittens, they will remain playful as adults.
Cats climb up underneath cars, lay on the frame. If you have a cat that you allow into your yard, you have to check underneath the car before driving anywhere to make sure the cat isn't unintentionally hitching a ride. If you live in an apartment/close by other people's cars, just don't. Cats can and will get lost from taking a ride (or even worse, getting injured by getting up into the engine) on a car they were sleeping inside of.
Cats will steal anything from your hands they can and are attracted to eating papers. Unless you want your cat to get a bowel obstruction from paper/foil/other wrappings, throw away your wrappings as soon as you're done with it. They will eat anything but that doesn't mean they can digest everything.
Cats prefer playing late at night, because that's when they hunt in nature. Be prepared to play with your cat at night and watch him sleep during the day, even if it's the opposite of what you want to do.
Cats are impervious to corporal punishment and it will just make them scared of you. They are incapable of understanding the cause-and-effect to realize WHY they are being swatted.
