>"You don't understand, I'm enjoying!" glazers have arrived to this thread
I do understand. Even though I liked the demo it is not at all what I want Castlevania to be(I'd rather it be dead because like I said I just want Castlevania to be the way IGA and Rondo and Dracula's Curse did it. Not this, or Lords of Shadow or Mirrors of Fate or the gachas).
Call this Rose's Dark Ritual or make this a side game while an actual true and honest Castlevania is on the way and I'd be happier. As it is I'm not going to buy it least of all for 30 big ones but I'll probably pirate it at some point and have a comfy weekend. And as other kiwis said, at least there's Bloodstained to look forward to.
Last heard when the God of Warvanias came out! ("Very much my jam" *chef's kiss* for the slop trash music)
Is it really so bad that I like this?

I quite like that track, I also like the color and art direction for most of the game, but that doesn't a good game make, I'm going to see how combat plays out later to give it any sort of definitive rating.

I've said it before, but "story" doesn't factor into Castlevania rating really, because all of them are either bare bones but serviceable, or bad, I think the only two that really had plots that made me feel anything was Order and Portrait, and those were essentially the very last two real Castlevania games Konami ever made.

Isaac's boss theme sounds like a shitty remix of a Yakuza song :story:

Can't be just me...
And sadly it's one of the better ones, almost everything else sounds like a bunch of muffled farts.

Holy shit this is way worse then I thought. I can't believe I felt let down by Lords of Shadows story. I would rather play those 3 games and the N64 games then this shit.

I refuse to believe that greentext. That is radioactive and disrespectful on such a level that it becomes parody.
Sounds like parody I know (even I couldn't believe it at first), but the sound lines I found while exploring the demo files match with the ones from the script that got leaked some days ago that got used to make that greentext.

I unironically liked the second N64 game :(

That's a really good point. Even the bad Castlevania games were likable, maybe frustrating at parts or dissapointing in some ways but alot of then had some semblance of fun and soul. Shit on the pachinko slop all you want, those cinematic scenes they made for them respected the source material and celebrated the series.

This shit is just vile modern writing drek.

What happened to all the faggots who had the downvotes when the girlboss signaled everything you needed to know earlier this year?

I played the Demo and I had a good time.

But it did feel like the game still needs to "earn" me if that makes any sense, it seems like a mixture of Dead Cells and Metroidvania and Im not entire sure if it got me.

Im trying to be open minded tho but...

Considering that the next Belmont after Rose, supposedly, is Christopher Belmont who behaves the same as his ancestors, I dare say that her "Better" nonsense didnt stick around much.

This is why there are no female Belmonts and most females in this series are support type characters.

This is a trend of modern millenial writing, the "we must be better" argument and it so annoyingly vague, just "better". It feels preachy, especially if it is being added to a long running franchise that was doing just fine before this, as if to imply it needs to be "saved" and brought to "modern standards" by our "visionairy* writers". Tho in here it is more hilarious over just how pointless it is, it doesnt change the fact that Rose is pretty much forgotten and its male Belmonts who took their jobs seriously that actually brought down an end to Dracula.

Also all the attempts at tying up to the grand lore seem interesting at first until you feel just how fanfiction-ish it all is, like they are trying to act like this is an entry that will redefine everything we know...Hey, asshole, that "everything we know"? Its fine as is, no need for you to act so insecure that you need to insert your own takes into this series and treat them like gospel.

I wont act like the church being corrupt is NEW to this series even before the Netflix show but you'd think they would play safe with this entry and maybe have something that feels more naturally challenging in later entries? This feels too "easy" of writing and trying to add far too much ambiguity into something that didnt ask nor needed it.

I WANT to believe this leak may be wrong but I have been so black pilled over so much deconstruction that it wouldnt surprise me if it turns out that it is. I'll wait for reviews to give the final veridict.

Its a shame because I did welcome a female Belmont, Sonia was always a thing and she was missed but good luck having a good female lead today that isnt destroyed by girlboss-itis. And the demo did seem like Rose was ok but wouldnt surprise me if they are holding the more controversial stuff for later in the game, you know, when the steam refund window has come and passed...Convenient.

Yeah I'll pass on the game, my feelings on the demo aside. 2d metroidvanias aren't exactly a genre I find enjoyable games to be rare in and the only Halloween Horror I can find here is the fact that despite not thinking of the Netflix show ever since viewing season 1 it's still somehow going to puppet what the shambling corpse of Castlevania is going to be doing now.

The most common criticism I've seen against the demo both in this thread and more generally on the internet is that it doesn't follow lore and I really can't comprehend why anyone would care about that. Out of the 6 Castlevania games I've played the plot has been -some guy is resurrecting Dracula and the hero has to stop them. Aria and Dawn of Sorrow are slightly different because you play as the reincarnation of Dracula but they're really not that different. And the games have such little dialogue that character personalities are either extremely basic or non-existent. This isn't a jab at those games, some games aren't story focused and that's fine, but I really don't understand why Castlevania fans are so attached to the lore or these characters. You'd never see a reaction like that for something like a new Mega Man game even though the series' overarching plot is comparable to Castlevania.

the "lore" has always been a Mansion built on a single lego block, lest we forget both Drac and Alucard used to look like Bela Lugosi, and by the time they added any complexity to the franchise it was STRAIGHT UP just fucking retcons of the whole premise IE, the PS1-era forward.

Castlevania is a feel, a vibe, an aesthetic, built over decades, there is a somewhat loose lore, and its good, and this one likely breaks it right over its knee, but that will be the least of its problems as there are so many non-canon and straight alternate-timeline shit in this franchise already that this is just one for the pile in that regard.

its failings will come if its annoying (IE Woke) and if it plays bad, that's it.

Because it takes the essential ingredients (minimal they may be) to Castlevania and shoehorns in Netflixvania 'lore' complete with fedoraisms that demystifies the whole thing. Holy Water? No. Crosses? Nope, it's all some gay alchemy or something instead. It would be one thing if the new game had minimal lore itself, but it appears to the opposite, since I spent 5 minutes listening to some faggy whine about the Bishop of Paris.

Maybe it wouldn't matter if the gameplay was good and I could skip it, but I was unimpressed. You're tiny on screen and it looks like some 2004 esque cell shaded garbage.

And I admit I have a ulterior motive - I liked that as a Catholic, there existed a series that respected Catholicism and made it look like a force for good for once. To then take a series I liked (even on its own merits) and then use it to blasphemously attack Saints (Joan of Arc is apparently a boss) is too much for me.

Not a big fan of Castlevania, but it seems the game is trying to replicate and get the Netflix series' audiences.

And Netflixvania is fucking awful as a standalone series, it's the culmination of Reddit "adult" writing with the dialogue being unberable to anyone that isn't a dumb teenager or (wo)manchild who makes Israel jokes but would never ever make fun of trannies. How an adaptation of an action/adventure gaming franchise feels like a very shitty political drama with some fight scenes to remember the setting and dialogue made for tiktok users. And that's without mentioning the comical levels of fedora tipping combined with clear contempt for the original source material typical of modern writers that take over established franchises.. The art style itself being similar to Netflixvania was a redflag in retrospect.

They seriously had that as an explanation? I'm gonna be a little autistic for a bit and I assumed that the holy water flasks burst in flames because they react against evil and dark presence, after all it's blessed with holy powers and Drac's castle is entirely made of evil, the ground, the walls, everything so it acts like a molotov there. But outside of the castle it's just a normal water in a flask unless it hits an evil creature or object.

And if you take note of how the holy water doesn't even go in flames after hitting the ground in Castlevania 2, which makes sense because you're just walking through a natural part of the world.
