So, I found out that the gacha game (Grimoire of Souls), while not really something I would play, they, not long after the end of the series, went to put that Maria was the only person Alucard had some romantic feelings, and even them, they never did it, almost as if reacting to the whole threesome scene from season 3.

Just beat Legends and Bloodlines. They're not that well-known, but they deserve some love.

Especially Legends, since that IS the start of the Belmont bloodline. Sonia Belmont meets Alucard, they fight against Dracula, they get hitched, and that's where Trevor Belmont, the ancestor of Simon and Richter, comes from. Not to mention that having some random blonde girl with a whip kick the shit out of Dracula and all his knights and undead minions, while at the same time, getting hitched with his son, is just fucking hilarious.

Bram Stoker fans will appreciate that Quincy Morris' son, John Morris, is playable in Bloodlines. But my preferred character for Bloodlines is Eric Lecarde; not only did Elizabeth Bathory turn his girlfriend into a vampire, making this quest personal, but he's a Spanish nobleman; one could see his war against Dracula as a crusade of sorts. Especially since he's skewering Dracula's minions with a pike/spear; the preferred weapon of the Spanish Tercio pikemen.

I really don't like how the new animated media like the Netflix series tries to make the Church the bad guys. Especially with the corrupt priest being targeted by demons; don't you think that demons would prefer allying with the corrupt clergy, since corruption in the Church drives people away from God? Hell, in SOTN, the demons DID have a corrupt priest named Shaft on their payroll; so that makes perfect sense.

Too bad it's not canon. It's a neat idea (and it's a shame we never got another female Belmont) but it would clash with the other games' lore.

I really want a Castlevania V that goes back to how Castlevania used to be, before SotN, really just want a sequel to Castlevania 4
It'd be cool if they did both types of 2D and the traditional 3D formulas. Or really just made any new games...

Based, I'm gonna give it a 5-star rating just for that.

There's no way a bunch of libs given creative freedom could resist the temptation to do so.

Is the canon still the same? Does the anime change it?
The anime is its own continuity, not that I really give a shit. Without IGA's involvement, Castlevania is just another of Konami's zombified IPs to milk dry.
Lament of Innocence does a pretty good job of establishing the origins of the centuries-long Belmont/Dracula conflict, by the way.

I ask, because while the anime presents the Church as evil, the games present it as good. The Pope calls in Simon's ancestor Trevor Belmont when their own anti-Dracula operative, Syphia Belnades, goes missing and is assumed dead.

Who's your preferred character to be the one to take down Dracula canonically in Bloodlines? Mine is Eric Lecarde, because Elizabeth Bathory turned his girl into a vampire, making it a personal matter for him, but I guess fans of the Bram Stoker novel would get a kick out of having John Morris give the Count an ass-whooping.

It's actually kind of funny to see Dracula continuing to be evil after SOTN. SOTN takes place in the Baroque era, right around the time of the French Revolution, and Bloodlines takes place during WW1. I got the impression that Dracula regretted his evil when his son kicked his ass in SOTN, what with him quoting the Bible, about how losing one's soul for power is wrong, but I suppose he went back to being an asshole down the line, or he never truly repented.

It'd be funny if Elizabeth Bathory revived Dracula, but the latter repented of his evil after fighting his own son, so he disembowels Bathory when he wakes up and he apologizes to Lecarde that Elizabeth turned his girl into a vampire.

I always felt that the fact that bloodlines and PoR didn't really make use of their WW settings was a waste. I'd honestly love a remake of PoR where the WWII setting is more than just flavor text at the beginning of the game and actually has you travel through the paintings to some iconic battles of the war with a twist. (Just had the idea that the holocaust could literally be a conspiracy made by vampires in order to harvest as many souls as inhumanely possible and have the climax of the game at Auschwitz a few hours before the camp is liberated.)

That and the fact that assaulting a castle full with nazis/japs/italians and vampires attempting to revive the ultimate evil for their own means sounds extremely cool. The cherry on top would be if you could actually use WWII era firearms as Jonathan and have Charlotte be more of a spellcaster glass cannon instead.

The fact that a Castlevania set during the Crusades hasn't happened yet is a damn waste.

The Matthew 16:26 quote is not in the original Japanese text, he says something more generic like "how ironic, seeking power turned out to be my undoing". Though he does still end with "Lisa, I was wrong..." before he dies.
A slight spoiler for the later games perhaps, but basically Dracula is an agent of Chaos (in a more literal sense than say, the Joker). That's why he's always reborn and needs to be defeated once again.

Still, even with the Japanese text, it seemed like Dracula realized the error of his ways. Then Bloodlines comes around and he's still an asshole, so I suppose the realization wasn't genuine.

As for that "agent of chaos" thing, it feels an awful lot like what the Zelda series did ti Ganondorf. He's always fated to be evil, from generation to generation, so forget everything else and just whoop his ass.

It will make more sense after Lament and the Sorrow games.

To me, this is my favorite version of Dracula's origin story and the start of his beef with God:

That, and the Bram Stoker Dracula is somewhat alluded to in Bloodlines, with Quincy Morris' son John Morris being Eric Lecarde's companion in the campaign against the revived Elizabeth Bathory and Dracula.
