Sifu is 3D but forces you into a side-scrolling beat em up camera perspective at some points. It works fairly well.

That'd probably work for, for example, a 3D SOTN remake. Just force the perspective after you beat Shaft.
That pretty much makes it Bloodstained and even if you dislike that game it is better than any SOTN-like in that style that Konami could shit out now.

Filtered, git gud scrub.

I was obsessed for a while with Castlevania back in 2009.

The post-SOTN games are a sad thing, I've never understood why they never done another Metroidvania style with the production value of SOTN. All the Handheld games look so budget bootleg compared to the PS1 classic, that even they play that way. From Gravity Boots to Wing-Smash, the exploration in the post-SOTN ones is just not as fun without all that mobility and many weird stuff to try with familiars and things like that.
While Harmony of Dissonance attempted something interesting with the Surreal exploration between Castle A and B, the rest just of the games follow the simplest Metroid power-up unlock exploration thing. It's can be such a disappointment for some.
The series never developed a full fledged vision for what the franchise should be in terms of gameplay, when SOTN came in they just did whatever.

For the 3D games, Lament of Innocence is the only one that I genuinely enjoyed, great music and at least a semblance of intention to apply Level-Design that goes beyond Aesthetic choices, Unlike Curse of Darkness. Some hipster snob might say something about Legacy of Darkness as being the superior 3D CV, but c'mon the N64 games were so experimental that it's miracle that they were full releases.
Curse of Darkness is a game that I hate so much, when there's no effort put to Level-Design that's when you know a Castlevania game is going to be bad. It's almost like a Korean Autist Grind simulator in the PS2. But the music is so much fun, currently most of the CoD OST i have in a playlist to workout.

The Classicvanias are the creme de la creme. CV1 is such a well designed game, that whatever argument you have against it can be easily identified with a lack of understanding or just simple distaste for it. On the other hand CV3 has such bullshit moments to fuck you over lol, but the sheer dopamine rush you get for beating one of this 8-bit or 16-bit Castlevania's is just unmatched. They are just fun and they beat the shit out of you. I've been in love with SCV4 for the longest time, and I enjoy DraculaX a little bit more than Rondo of Blood.

As for Bloodstained,

Curse of the Moon > Ritual of the Night

Haven't looked into the Netflix shit show, Suprised that the Americans made Alucard a fag instead of the Belmont.
Late but you can’t really make Belmont a fag because otherwise the very premise of the series is fucked (and yes I know there are non Belmont protagonists but too many of those games plots like symphony and the sorrow games require a Belmont to happen.

Current state of the franchise is sad when you remember that this series was consistently a trailblazer for Konami (first game developed specifically for home consoles, first Konami game on the gameboy snes genesis turbografx n64 gba and I think the ps1 and ds, first Konami game to use cd rom technology, and first Konami game in 3d)

Really, in my opinion Castlevania is the first proper Konami series period, it's the one that set the high standard of quality followed by later series like Metal Gear, Contra and Silent Hill.

The only other noteworthy Konami series I'm aware of that is older is Gradius, but I still feel like Castlevania is where the "Konami" we used to love really began in earnest.

I was thinking too recently about what exactly IS that core element that set Konami apart? I think it's because Konami was among the first video game developers to really take an influence from movies in a big way, Castlevania is a homage to Universal and Hammer horror (you can even see film spokes on the title screen), Metal Gear was inspired by The Great Escape and Silent Hill was obviously heavily inspired by Jacob's Ladder.

It's that cinematic flair that really gave Konami's it's identity, especially in the case of Hideo Kojima, but while Castlevania has always been more purely focused on gameplay, the original Castlevania in 1986 was, beyond games that were directly licensed from some movie, one of the first major games to really lean hard into the idea of making the player feel like they stepped into the world of movies.

Different showrunner and writer, so maybe I'll watch this after all. I'm still going to wait for spoilers and reviews beforehand, though.

It's probably gonna be pigshit, but the fact they jumped straight to Richter must mean that they're (slightly) shitting their pants about the backlash of the last few seasons of the previous installment. They're probably looking to get into the diehards' good graces again, but I do not trust them. I was tricked once. I won't be tricked again.

There was backlash? Maybe from hardcore fans but plenty of normies who has never touched an entry in their lives ate that shit up despite pulling the same crap Game of Thrones did. I'll give Season 4 credit for having cool action scenes so if they fuck this up again, at least I can hope for mindless action.

Necroing, but I'm watching it right now, and so far, it's not very good. It's woke af, and that's coming from someone who thinks that term is ridiculously overused.

I'm only on episode four, but it's already extremely heavy-handed about revolutions, and how bad religion, and slavery are because that bullshit clearly needs to be in Castlevania series. Apparently, from what's been spoiled for me, it only gets worse, too.
inb4 Richter gay/bi arc.
Actually, no. From what I've heard, Richter mostly gets sidelined for Annette, who was blackwashed into this ex-slave character who's abrasive, arrogant, snobbish, and overall just a pain in the ass. As of episode four, that appears to be the case because the last two episodes have been focusing on her, and she certainly is acting that way.

The actual bi guy is Olrox, who went from being some green lizard guy in the games to an Aztec, long-haired pretty boy. He fucks, and gets way too attached to this Catholic soldier dude because of course he does. Despite that, he's actually my favorite character next to Richter because he's not constantly preaching about revolutions, or how bad slavery, and the church are. InB4 he starts doing that, too.

So far, the only things I really like are the animation, fight scenes, voice acting, and character/monster designs. Everything else is either just meh, or just plain bad.

Game's about a guy with a whip putting a bunch of uppity zombies in their place from day one. Castlevania is a pro-slavery franchise.

The new series is actual shit

The VA are one of the worst things ever. Richter sounds like a faggot, Maria sounds like stuck up antifa, the niggers sounds like nigger (wtf?! This is like 1800, not the hood!) And the rest is like half-assed and it's probably me but they had a lot of autotune and some voices sounded like AI (I don't think so but some deliveries sounded like how AI does deliveries).

The actions scene were weird. Lots of frame skipping and lots of weird fast cuts where you don't understand what the fuck is going on, and not to mention the animation had no punch due to bad sound mixing and the same fast choppy cuts.

And not to mention the gays and niggers. The fucking gays and niggers in Castlevania!!

I stopped watching the new Castlevania series by episode 3 because they were way too many niggers and gays in my VAMPIRE show.

The made Alucard a fucking faggot and probably in this series everyone becomes a faggot of a nigger and I don't want or need to see that.

Also there was an "Opera Singer nigger" who sang and was like nails on a chalkboard. An Opera Singer nigger in Haiti....

I'm tired of having niggers in everything.

Real talk, him randomly screeching some Italian song during episode three's fight scene is one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've seen in a long time. Him just caterwauling while everyone's getting stabbed, punched, and crushed by doors is just really, really funny. It reminded me of something out of D&D.

On a side note, I cannot believe how much they wasted the French Revolution setting. It practically writes itself, and the writers (of which there is apparently three) just pissed it away to focus on muh slavery in Haiti.

I don't know, I stopped watching at the start of episode 3. I was smart and watched a supercut and there was a sex scend between an Indian gay vampire and a lot more niggers and "White colonialism bad "so I stopped. I ended up watching Baki.

They could have done it before the French Revolution, showcase how the people were suffering at the hands of the Monarchy and how Richter was a Church boy or something, making a real moral dilemma between the peasants, the Monarchy and his bloodline until he meets Maria and she works unwittingly with vampires to brought down the Monarchy (or something) and then introduce Alucard which basically bitch slap both and show them Vampires are bad and will want to bring down the the Era of Terror (you know that time during the french revolution)

That shitty idea thought up in 10 minutes is way better than putting niggers blaming whitey of Slavery in a fucking vampire show.

Exactly. Again, it fucking writes itself, and they still found a way to fuck it up.

All I can say is that I hope Dracula comes back, and kills Annette because god, she is terrible, and I hate her. Either that, or Olrox because despite being a fucking fag, his quetzalcoatl form is actually pretty cool, and him frying her with its lightning powers would be awesome.

"Tops the last series like those Japs topped Alucard," say critics.

Wait, what thread do we use for shitting on Netflixvania? This or this other one?
Anyways, their xitter is being much cringier than usual.

Fuck you Netflix : )
"Hello there, I am fan favorite and very last minute plot device, and I will be very important next season, likely more than you Belmont. You can trust me."

Not only they blackwashed Annette, but also turned Drolta Tzuentes into that dominatrix nigress. You know, this old hag from Castlevania Bloodlines, game that happens during 1917 :story:

I'm up to ep 4, some random thoughts:
1. One of the reasons I hated bi Alucard is not because they made him suck dick but because they tried making it a personality trait for an incredibly pointless arc. Literally, Alucard's season 3 appearance had no impact on the show whatsoever. So now I see gay Aztec vampire fucking another gay man because....because?

2. I know the games were light on story but race lifting Annette feels incredibly pointless when she could easily be an original character. I mostly hate the race lifting because it's obvious they did it to score diversity points rather than do anything interesting with it.

3. I await a French Revolution history buff to tear the worldbuilding apart. There's artistic license (lol Catholics in Romania) and there's that stupid shit about African Romanians brought over by Romans.

Anyways, their xitter is being much cringier than usual.

Ugh
God, I hated the useless lesbians so much.

Gotta be honest. Dropped the Nocturne shit show after 4 episodes. I liked the previous series even though season 3 in that show was really weak. And Alucards sub plot in that season was pointless. But overall, I liked the show.

And then this show comes out and yea, waaaay too many niggers. Like the show almost felt like a nigger show rather than a vampire hunter "anime". Like wtf? And also more gay sex? Why does this studio always have gay sex? Alucard being bi in Castlevania and Apollo being bi in Blood of Zeus. And again in this series?
