EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - The man accused of having a gun on the grounds of Putnam Heights Elementary School in April was ordered to be committed Monday.
Andrey Sichuga was charged with possessing a firearm on school grounds, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct after the incident.
As 18 News reported, police were called to the school because a man who was banned from the property was trying to enter it. The school went into a 'secure mode', which is a form of lockdown, because of it.
A competency hearing was held Monday. The judge found 'clear and convincing' evidence that Sichuga is not competent to stand trial at this time. However, it was noted that he could regain competency within time limits.
The judge ordered Sichuga be committed to DHS and that the case be suspended. A review hearing is scheduled for October.
