I don't understand why modern crash safety + mechanical driving is not a thing that exists as an option. I'll fucking pay extra! I'll buy 50% over MSRP for some weird craft beer variety of car!

the last car i rented in urop was in 2016 or so and it had the 'turn engine off at stop signs because fuck you' which is a pita with a manual tranny; but in the manual was a way to put it in what i called 'murica mode' which didn't do that.

i don't know how auto-crash avoidance shit has changed recently, but none of the recent rental cars have done that (but then again, murica lanes being 5000 ft wide because fuck liberals)

There was no way to turn it off. I hated it so fucking goddamn much and it makes me angry just thinking about it.

Because politicians in the EU and US sign bills into effect for 'safety' and car companies love an excuse to charge you more money for shit that reduces safety by taking control away from you (lag in the throttle is fucking dangerous if you expect the car to move and it needs to think about it for a second before doing something).
I had a rental Skoda for a few days and I fucking hated everything about it. Dead steering feel, a steering wheel that pulled control from me when it got nervous, non stop fucking beeping, and the worst part...eco driving tips signified by a beep and a paragraph on the taco that takes eyes of the road 'window open, close your window to minimise aerodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency!' was one...I shit you not. Oh and everything controlled from a touchscreen which again, requires you to divert your eyes from the road.

Tbh I’ve always wanted a challenger/charger hellcat ever since they came out. But ever since they became a very popular for car thieves. It kinda deterred me from buying a used one right before the pandemic prices went insane. I wonder what are some German alternatives to a hellcat

This is handy for surviving things like EMPs. These engines were available in a range of things, most notably dodge rams.

Highly budget dependent in the end, 6BTs are expensive these days. The trucks they come in are pretty crappy too, a D250/350 is inferior to a squarebody chevy in pretty much every way but the engine, most of them are also single cab and the extended cab D series trucks don't have space for rear seats. 24V cummins trucks are pieces of crap too, the interiors are some of the worst ever conceived. Null needs a car mentor because buying old stuff and being dependent on mechanics are conflicting ideas.

Pretty much anything carb'd will do that, so long as the engine isn't full of water and it has fuel/spark.

That's another notch for the smartphones and social media ruining things. Distracted driving is essentially socially acceptable because people are insane and since cracking down on that shit would reduce profits, it's "better" to just make the cars kinda sorta drive themselves so the retard at the wheel only has to make the executive decisions on where to go while the car tries its best to not crash and die while the more important task of scrolling through the TikTok feed is at hand.

For what it's worth, that kind of forced lane "assist" is a very recent thing and you only have to go back one model generation for it to be an optional extra, which also means that an independent shop with the right scan tool can just make it go away.

Diesel trucks never worked out, because the best parts were in all 3 brands. I am not anti Diesel or anything but, it's frankly annoying, you'd have to buy 3 trucks to make one good one on it. While you can get a nice gasser.

6BTs have this aura but are well, dated.

I'm not in the mood to bore everyone with autism, but yeah each brand had(has) a great point for their coal burner and then fucks it up somehow.

Well the problem of the drivers is related to the appeal of the car. Discount modified cars here obviously, we're talking about new and stock. Find a car faster than a Mustang for the money. You cannot. Find a car more powerful than a hellcat for the money. You cannot. When you have the cheapest of something you attract the lowest common denominator, that's just how it is. Plus, the appeal of the car itself is transparent a hellcat is either the purest example of a muscle car currently in existence in the Challenger or a comfortable and practical sedan that is also fast, sounds incredible, and looks better than any other fast sedan on the market. That last part is subjective of course, but BMW, Mercedes, Audi, all have absolutely ruined the look of their cars in the past decade. BMW is the worst example of this, but Audi has done it too; compare a new Audi RS3, also a fast sedan for the money, to the generation of just a couple of years ago. It's just nauseating to look at from the front. Sure, an RS3 or model 3 performance is quicker to 60 and almost duplicates a hellcat's redeye's 1/4mi ET, but look at those trap speeds, they're down nearly 10mph. A non-redeye Hellcat is not nearly as quick, mostly held back by traction I'd guess, but they still trap faster than an RS3 or model 3 and do 200mph ungoverned. Hellcats are legitimately fast cars.

What's some tips for shopping around?

Only things I'm actually looking for are decent mileage so probably a 4 cylinder, and that it's not gonna just shit out on me after another 100k miles. Also not looking at anything over 15-20k

Last 2 vehicles were Chevy Cruzes.

It's hard to car shop when you don't know what to look for with the make, model, and year you're interested in. First step would be to find a set of cars you're interested in. That means doing some research on them, common issues, common rust areas if in a salty place, typical maintenance costs and the like. Then shop online using sites like autotrader and autotempest to see what the going rates are for the cars you want. Once you find an example you like visit it, get a pre purchase inspection, and make the final decision.
