Double post, do not care:

I was dumb, it is not a whole solid tube, it was a very worn down rubber hose!M y father in law helped me repair the powerbrake vacuum line, mexican style:

That is a plastic T joint from the washers of a Derpsun with a screw on and teflon tape; we just came back from a test drive and it fucking worked! Will try to find a metal hose joint asap to replace it.

The result is ugly but hey, as long as it works!

Alright I'm looking at a new job where I can basically name my price. I'm very lucky. What kind of work vehicle for light off-road work should I ask for? I currently use a 3/4 ton gasser work truck
 
I've been in the market for the GR86/BRZ for the last few years (I drive a BRZ currently) but with the Z coming along I figured I'd give that a long look too. But now Toyota has thrown a massive fuck you in the mix with the GR Corolla, and... I'm just sold on it for the GR-Four badging and because it just reminds me of one of my favorite race cars, the Peugeot 206 WRC.

But I'm incredibly aware that living in NJ, some fucking sperg will pay $10k over msrp to get their hands on one and if I wait it out it will be another 2 to 3 years. I think I'm just going to buy a bike this year and ignore cars. Was sort of looking forward to something new though, but I still love my BRZ.
 
Finally breaking in my engine. Reached 413,000 kms recently. The AMC 4.0 meme seems pretty true so far.

It is, I have two Jeeps, one with an AMC 232, and one with the modern Jeep 4.0, and the latter is at 310,000 miles. I daily drive it in the winter, and it still goes along.
 
Someone forgot to add Vauxhall to the poll lol. I'm not really a car person but I remember wanting a Corsa as a small child because the adverts had fun mascots in them and you got a cuddly toy of one of them when you bought one.

I also wanted a Chrysler Grand Voyager because it had built in TVs and a retractable table and I thought that was some sweet James Bond shit.

These days I really like the look of those Smart cars. I don't have a driver's license yet because I'm really clumsy and shy so the prospect of learning to drive and having to deal with a driving instructor kinda scares the shit out of me but I think I'd really like one if I ever did learn to drive, since if there's a tiny bonnet/boot then it'd probably be easier on the spatial awareness front I guess? My mom hates the idea because the safety rating on the older Smart cars was really bad so she thinks they're all like that. I also think it'd be really funny if someone modded a Smart car with fun race car shit and painted flames on it like a person sized Hot Wheels car or something:

The passenger seat is for your social anxiety

In the states you're subhuman if you don't get a license just because you don't feel like it. I think I've met maybe 2 people ever like that. Maybe it's different in euro land where you can walk everywhere/have loads of public transportation options?

I mean I live in England so I can get buses/trains to the vast majority of places. The office I currently work at is on the grounds of a stately home on the outskirts of town and there's not a bus that goes there though so I should probably learn to drive at some point. I could walk there but it'd take like 45mins-1 hour, while it takes like 7-10 minutes in the car. Right now my dad drives me to work since this is my first ever job and I don't get paid much so therefore I still live with my parents. It's not too much of an inconvenience to him since he always gets up early anyway regardless and it's a pretty short commute but I still feel kinda bad about it lol

Some Jeep 4L engines built during the turn of the millenium, have oblate machining on Cylinder #6 (the one closest to the firewall, and the hardest one to get the spark plug out of). This means that the cylinder wall is a little bit egg-shaped, and results in some compression loss from a bad seal, and imperfect travel on the piston's stroke, creating a tick or knocking sound. It usually isn't a death sentence, but it does sound severe. Mine has it, and it made it to 300k. If you really want to fix it, you can overbore the cylinder wall until it's a more perfect shape, and put slightly larger pistons in, or slightly wider piston rings on the existing pistons. You could even overbore just the one piston if you wanted to be cheap. Either way, the end result is a little more power and no noise.

The other ticks that would occur is from the valvetrain loosening up, or bad coil packs. That can be fixed with a torque wrench, or in more severe cases, replacing the valves, springs, and lifters, or if your coil packs are bad, replace them. You can usually tell if the coil packs are bad, if you're getting really bad fuel economy, or sluggish, sort of crunchy, acceleration. Either way, it's generally not a big deal.
