A friend of mine just sold an 84 Jeep Scrambler he's had for over 20 years that he purchased for $4000 and only ever put tires, oil and basic maintenance in to for 30k in cash. I guess the lesson is buy unpopular 4x4s when they're 15-19 years old and cheap and just sit on them

I predict the Izuzu Rodeo Gen2 and 3 will be the next one that gains popularity.

My money is the Mitsubishi Montero. The Delcia is already has a very dedicated cult following and the Montero has always been on similar footing to the Forerunner and Wrangler in terms of overall capability. They were way cheaper in their time and I can still find them under 9k with acceptable wear and tear if I put in some effort.

I love the ranger rover classics. I’ve always wanted a Range Rover or discovery but I know the maintenance and the cost of parts would rape my wallet. Is it a bad idea to get a $5k under Land Rover?

A 95 isn't as bad as anything that came after. 12k still feels like a MASSIVE overpay to me, the market sucks right now though so it's probably about right if not, low. So Yeah, I'll just agree Car Won't Crank and say if you own a full set of ratchets and can start figuring out which ebay stores are gonna work for you, you'll love it

I really love those older Land Rovers, feels like you could really climb mountains with that. The newer ones however it seems like they're made only for soccer players or for pimps, IMO.

The only way you can make one “reliable” is LS swapping oneView attachment 3300610
Okay, we got the engine perfect! Now we're just down to the air ride, transfer case, transmission, interior, switch gear, body, all the little motors that will inevitably cook their windings, you know the drill. The more things your car has, the more likely you're going to have issues.

I'm really envy how you guys in America can manage to swap engines without any problems.

Here in Europe is absolute hell, as you need to go back to the DMV to classify your vehicle as a prototype, get temp license plates and then you have pay up lots of $$$ (up to 16k $) due to taxes, licenses and other bureaucratic bullshit.

Then, you appoint a special vehicle exam which a DMV engineer is going to valuate if your swapped engine has been properly installed, if it respects modern day anti-pollution and safety laws (so using older engines is out of the question) and then they still can refuse to register your modified vehicle for breaking a stupid eurofaggy mundane vehicle regulation law; wasting time and lots of money.

Fuck this stupid-ass continent, I swear. I just wanna mod my car in peace, is it too much to ask? *sigh*

LS swapping anything is the way to go, but unless you swap it yourself and understand the ins and outs of the swap, you will be beholding to the swapper.

You can sleep on my couch until you get residence.

I just tried a quart of Lucas with this oil change. I had a tiny HLI tick that would show up only if the engine is started hot. Seems like it went away and I feel pretty good about the extra $10. I normally stay far away from "cure-all" solutions. My mechanic friend recommended it to me

Lucas and sea foam are legit. Everything else is garbage

I seafoamed the fuel system too. Sometime it starts rough when it's hot. But rarely. I figured for a few bucks it can't hurt.

As far as other snake oils, I run zinc additive in engines not designed for unleaded fuel. Hard recommend on that. Stopped a VW from smoking entirely

Just had the metal spring for my truck door snap off today. That's gonna be fun to find a replacement for.

Had to swap in a new trans pan since the arsehole mechanic reused the old cork gasket years ago. Jackass. Surprisingly the 30 year old PS pump works perfectly. I don't understand it, it's like my truck is aging in reverse.
Never.

Yes. That's about right for semiconductor factories and TSMC isn't even going to give us the good semiconductor factories. They keep those in Taiwan so that we have a vested interest in keeping Taiwan number one when China starts wanting to claim them.

That's according to the vehicle. I know from my experience that is where Ford put their ports for their trucks to begin with. I have a EFI Bronco that doesn't even have a diagnostics port. It took an act of congress to get the car manufacturers to even put the port in so you could get your flashy light. I won't fuck with a EFI OBDI vehicle unless they want a swap. It's too much of a pain in the ass. I'd rather sit with a vacuum gauge and a timing light and read spark plugs than deal with that shit. When OBDII came out in 96 it really was the awakening of a new era when it came to engine tuning.
Mines first gen EFI, so far the computer is fine. The rubber lines, OTOH......

The 80s/90s are in right now, gen x and older millennials are now the classic audience. Great news if you're into 70s cars.

I am so tempted to sell my truck, but even if I got $30k out of it a new one would be 40k and would take 6months to arrive. And I'd have to get a new bed cap which is another 6k now...

Good luck with the sore arms scraping that old schmoo off. Nothing for something like that other than your best razor and patience
