Capcom's War Against Modding - Games older than ten years shall not be spared from Capcom's DRM against modding because some coomer couldn't keep his nude mods from spilling out of his pants at a tourney.

If you're gonna move to piracy then why are you bitching about a paid service then? Bitch to Valve that you want to be able to easily downgrade your games, chances are that with enough well worded and genuine complaints they'll add such functionality, because they don't want to lose customers.

And if you're just gonna fuck back to piracy without even trying, nothing's gonna change, you're gonna keep bitching about how bad Valve's monopoly is, but you didn't do shit to at least try and see if they're willing to improve the service you paid for.
For a serious answer, while I understand you are playing devil's advocate, I feel like you might be putting a bit of faith towards Valve, despite the current state of the company being not the same as it was during the wee-days of 2004-2013, or even those at 1998. God knows how many of the Old Guard at Valve have left the company, and how long do you think Gabe Newell can even maintain his position at Valve before time takes him. In addition, if that was the case for "downgrading", there are many games that have not been given the downgrading treatment despite the number of complaints. The several versions of GMod for instance (as in GMod 9-13 and older versions) can't be seen since all data of GMod has been the latest version Facepunch shits out, or that one stupid Payday 2 update that made online game functionality impossible after the devs made the retarded decision to cater to the EGS crowd, there were posts on how to downgrade but it eventually became too late to even claim it as all files are now stuck to the latest version, I mean hell if Valve were listening, they would like some region-exclusive games to be released to other regions especially if it takes years. They still have not made MG Revengeance available in South-East Asia last I checked despite the high demand and the fact that Konami has gotten complacent.

I'd say the wee-days of 98-2009. 2010 was the year of lootboxes in TF2 and mainstreaming them in the West. I'll never forget that they tried to push that into the Portal 2 coop or creating $100 wedding rings in 2011-2012. Oh how I miss the days when something like $2.50 horse armor was offensive...

So my question is, what is the alternative? And I'm strictly speaking about legal ones, if you bring up piracy as an alternative this entire argument stops being valid because it's about the quality of a service you pay for.
The only real way to play games is with piracy, yes. Buycucks deserve everything they get.
I refuse to support this dying industry in any way, even if I enjoy a game. Let it die, companies like Capcom here are perfect examples of what happens when you blindly support a platform or a company and expect to keep your game forever. At least I know what I'm getting when I hit my favorite torrent site AND I get to keep my game forever
