I'll clarify the descriptions of both cities to see which one is more ideal.

Cancun
Cancun is a beach resort city located in Quintana Roo next to the crystal clear waters of Gulf of Mexico. Tourists usually spend their time on a peninsula with luxury hotels mostly made of modern architecture. They offer plenty of thing in this city but the main attraction is the ancient Mayan ruins. Other than that the city lacks much historical architecture, the downtown areas look more like a typical modern Mexican city but doesn't offer much of an authentic Mexican experience as it's more Americanized but still offers something nonetheless. The terrain is flatland with dense jungles.

Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is a beach resort city located in Jalisco next to the pacific ocean. Although not much luxury hotels compared to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta offers more traditional architecture, a more authentic experience and a well established downtown area with an established history as this place used to be a fishing village. Most tourists spend their time in Luxury hotels but many people have come to Puerto Vallarta for the authentic experience. There is still a lot to do in Puerto Vallarta like Cancun. The terrain is mountainous.

This is not the interesting part of Mexican history.
Rather, it is the chaos and violence that is remarkable. Please post tangents about the hundreds of little conflicts that Mexico has suffered, or even Cartel news.

My favorites are always the little tiny cartels (eg; school teacher decided to make a cartel that enforced Chivalry codes, and called themselves the Knight's Templars.)

What the fuck are you doing. You take your hot rod down to Tijuana for an upholstery job and while Juan is handling that you go over to a bar for the donkey show. By the time the donkey show is over Juan already has your shit done and you bee line your ass back to the border before the federales pull you over and put you in jail for the crime of not paying their bribe. The only reason Ralph can survive down there is because he is so huge that the locals think he is the wealthy man he pretends he is on the internet. He has like tens of thousands of dollars. Might as well be a millionaire. He finally found his place in a third world country.

Puerto Vallarta is actually a very nice place.
Slight powerlevel, when I was a lad, I was with my family, and we took the bus. Little old lady hops on and I immediately stand up and offer her my seat because my family raised me to be a gentleman.

The bus, which had been oddly silent up until then, suddenly became a lot livelier. The people of Puerto Vallarta are chill. Also their university kicks ass, I got to talk to some of the students and meet the alligators on their farm.

I cannot say anything about Cancun, as the cruise was in port for less than 12 hours and I had a meeting I had to attend in surroundings that somehow all look the same no matter where one goes.
