I told my caseworker that I was leaving the country, but he was incompetent so I continued to get paid for 4 months until I realized and contacted the welfare office via phone. I paid it back but it made me wonder: what if I hadn't told the caseworker initially and what if I hadn't contacted them after?

I'm not sure how it is for other provinces, but the one in which I resided only had recipients confirm that they were still living in the place once a month via electronic survey and that was enough to continue receiving benefits. If I had really wanted to, I'm sure that I could have continued to receive the benefits for years.
