In response to my fellow Canuckistani's, I have only one thing to say.

It wasn't like it was a bad game either, but much like with the Jays losing the World Series last year, a bunch of insufferable dipshits are going to make it all about how we "lost to those Nazi fucks in Amerikkka", so watching the seethe is amusing

I think people just assume Canada has to absolutely be best at it at all times, without realizing that a lot of the games Canada won before were actually down to the wire as well. It just swings like that sometimes. I already see people blaming some of the players, but hockey is a weird sport; the puck just goes like that sometimes.

I don't know, I might be weird since I only care about the Oilers, but people hanging their hopes on a hockey game are strange to me.

It's honestly not that deep - people (read - dipshits) wanted to use this game as a way to own the Orange Man. And much like the World Series, it makes it very funny that we came up short at the very end, despite it not being a bad game.

The leafs lost, the boomers are seething, and I got a goodnight's sleep. It's a beautiful day

I feel like under normal circumstances, an American win wouldn't even be treated that badly by most Canadians. America and Canada had somewhat of a friendly rivalry going on for many years. What makes this particular game hold more weight than usual is that America and Canada are politically hostile to one another. So it no longer feels like a friendly if intense game of hockey but more like "Fuck you and fuck your country" materialized into a hockey game.

Americans don't care lol, this is the most one sided feud in existence

Trusting anything online or applying things seen in the virtual world to the waking world is a folly
So true
Why do Canadians say "Elbows up"? As I understand, it's a reference to hockey, an American sport (although of course a minor one).
Hockey is a Canadian/British sport technically since its inspired by field hockey and first played in Quebec. Elbows up is what you do when you start a fight in hockey

It's an old fujoshi reference. Basically, when two hot hockey guys are about to fight and act all sexy, they'll put their elbows up to maximize damage and romance, so it became a central plot point in a lot of hockey-based yaoi fanfic.

basically in hockey collisions between players happen regularly, and elbows up means to point your elbow at another player to cause injury to them during the collision. That hurts like hell and usually serves to get your ass beat.

Canadians hand wringing about the US gloating as if they didn't boo the national anthem at the 4 Nations Face Off in a completely unacceptable breach of sports etiquette.

If you wanna act like cunts, we'll treat you in kind.
