A few things have happened since the 90s to incline gun owners to not comply. The feds have no credibility, and they aren’t even feared here.

I know quite a few RPAL holders, I haven’t seen a single one with a plan to comply. Quite the opposite.

Lots of guys trading their firearms around so even if they were ever on the long gun registry, the feds have no idea who has what now.

Plans are being made, but no one is really worried in my area. The RCMP coverage is even worse than the last time I mentioned it, the 6 man detachment nearby closed down and the consolidated location has an even larger area to cover. And they are NOT INTERESTED in kicking in doors in rural AB for no real crime fighting reason.

The economy is not great and there are some boys with nothing to lose and the cops are less retarded than the politicians.

The new policy goes into effect Jan 31 2026. You will have to report every gun your own by the end of May 2026 so it can be registered by the Feds and of course then that means they can come confiscate it next year when they outlaw all guns.

The quadrupling down on this policy really warms my cold dead heart. The Libs are banking on FOMO to drive up compliance numbers, even though they'll be lucky to break double digits thanks to the success (or lack thereof) of the pilot project in Cape Breton. Every gun owner knows they're not getting anything for complying, the vast majority of gun owners won't comply out of spite, and the RCMP won't remotely attempt enforcing this outside of Quebec since, surprise surprise, the majority of newly "prohibited" firearms are non-restricted and have no official records of sale - all before factoring in multiple provinces and territories telling Ottawa to shove it up their ass.

I really hope they keep this foot in mouth behaviour going, it has been a major reason for the recent surge in Canadian PAL/RPAL acquisition and one of the factors souring a few fence sitters on Carney's supposed economic smarts. Long Gun Registry 2.0 here we come.

Say I claim I own a "rifle" but it's actually 20 handguns smuggled across the border, now any attempts to fuck with me for firing off a few shots in the backwoods can keep getting pinned back on a rife that was legally obtained in Canada even if the RCMP come knocking. By all means, let them scour half the backwoods of Canada for any suspicious sheds, locked trunks, and disrupted earth. These gun compliance laws aren't enforceable outside of Toronto or another major metro area already filled with jeets.

But, I would get a laugh if the whole Canadian military were tasked at combing every inch of Canada to find hidden weapons. It's about all they're good for these days anyhow.
