Welcome to the wonderful world Canadian confederation. To clarify a bit though we don't technically have interprovincial tariffs as that's forbidden even under our constitution; what we have instead are "non-tariff barriers". Basically amounts to provincial regulations, procurement policies, and other local restrictions designed to protect and/or indirectly subsidize certain industries. So a tariff in practice given a lot of that bureaucracy comes with a price tag for doing business and selling goods, but not by definition, and something a few states like California also leverage for their own ends.

As for the general Canadian economy we've been in a recession for years at this point, StatsCan simply has been pressured into ensuring the stats always lie just on the side of "totally not a recession bro". Also likely where a lot of noise regarding this budget is coming from since not only will be likely be the largest deficit in our history (excluding the pandemic largesse), but is also including the immigration levels for 2026 (take a guess as to why), housing funding changes, and a whole host of tax changes. Plus it's also including accounting wizardry via manipulation of capex reporting so the Libs can understate the deficit and preach all is well. It's likely to pass regardless of all this crap, but there's a nonzero chance it doesn't.

Yes of course the economy is self inflicted but its a deep rot that stems from our foundation.


Are retarded behaviour is a directly result from when the Canadian colonies declined Benjamin Franklin's invitation to join the revolution. Instead, we wanted to remain good loyal british citizens instead of being an entrepreneurial risk taking self governing self determining proud nation.

Fast forward our country is massively underdeveloped from infrastructure to developing industries that add value to all of our raw resources, w'ere big cucks that let the french who the British conquered, blackmail us for $15 billion dollars in equalization pay.

Now Ontario has a lower productive output then Alabama and Mississippi, we have a federal government that encourages us to die, that trying to take away our free speech and refuses to make a common sense trade deal with our biggest most reliable trade partners.

And our politics is still stuck in a pre trump era slow but steady decline. Where our politicians think mass importing cheap indian Timmy's employees are going to drive up the gdp.

All because were passive aggressive losers that asked for permission to make a country and have never ever shown half the intiative America has ever shown.
 
If Trump annexes Alberta and Saskatchewan he could probably revitalize the complete American economy just by rebuilding Alberta to have modern infrastructure

The rednecks in the Appalachians have higher incomes than Ontario and Quebec. We are not in a position to demand Americans for anything.

The republican party only has two sub-camps at this point: MAGA, or RINO. MAGA is the base, they're the ones who speak fondly of Reagan, but also love Trump. The rinos are only around because too many boomers keep voting them in. Literal dinosaurs only kept around through political inertia. You'd have an easier time sparking a civil war in the GOP about legalizing illegals than whatever Reagan thought back in the day. Ford is a fucking idiot, I can't believe he's in power up there.

Appalachia? Try the good old boys, Ozarks dwellers, and generic white trash across the Deep South. Alabama and Mississippi already beat out Ontario in terms of average income and that's the centre of Canada - at least according to the Laurentian midwits calling the Windsor-Toronto corridor home.

I preface by agreeing that yes, the people who cheer for this are glad handing retards of the most despicable variety. But nearly every Canadian Celebrity with half a brain has fled Canada to the United States. The ones who haven't only live here part time and are wise enough not to wade into Canadian Politics. Unless you're cheerleading on the side of the liberal orthodoxy you'll be labelled far right or "alt-right adjacent".

Doug Ford stays in power by being "conservative" in a province where the viable alternatives are the provincial Liberals, who select their candidates based on how much they remind voters of their terrible elementary school principal, and the NDP who are communists.
