It is a bit misleading.

Singapore is a multicultural society. That "Chinese" group was very diverse people from a huge number of regions that did not even speak the same language or even eat the same food (other than rice). The country is also one of the most religiously diverse countries on the planet.

How did Lee Kuan Yew make this work? He made them to become one Singaporean culture. He forced all of the Chinese subgroups, Malay, and Indians to speak English in public life. No tax funded translators - learn English to function here. He enforced a meritocratic colorblind society on the country by refusing any DEI-like programs that would appear unfair. He funded massive public housing projects and used them break ethnic enclaves with race quotas in buildings. He forced people to live together and created public spaces that would be used by everybody. His government passed a law banning foreigners from stirring up religious and cultural division in their country. He forced everybody to dedicate a percentage of their earnings to ownership in state companies and stocks so that they would have ownership of their country and benefit from its success.

He did everything Canada will never do to make multiculturalism work.

Singapore, no matter how wealthy, is a city-state that's smaller than Toronto, that's why I normally don't consider it relevant. It works because it is small, functions as a tax haven, and has a strategic port located in the Strait of Malacca. Singapore's idea of a multicultural Asian nation works in a small scale with authoritarian laws. Lee Kuan Yew knew this, he was intelligent, he also understood that other Asian countries aren't going to be able to follow Singapore's system. Applying Lee Kuan Yew's principles to the entirety of Canada is never going to work in the best of circumstances.

You're better off hedging your bets on Vietnam and the Philippines since these two are slated to be the next ones to join the club, and are actual homogenous nations, although Filipinos are ethnic mutts, but that's besides the point. Vietnamese nail ladies and Filipino maids are more economically viable than all the Indians and Pakistanis.

If BC premier, David Eby's, recent tantrum over Danielle Smith's pipeline proposal is any indication, then it reveals that Team Canada and Canada Strong was just a farce. Carney could--in theory--put Little Davey in his place as interprovincial infrastructure is federal jurisdiction, but he won't due to his ideological opposition and personal financial interests. Similarly, he won't repeal Bill C-69 or the tanker ban (though US tankers travel down the BC coast to mainland USA from Alaska) so it becomes readily apparent that there is going to be no meaningful change. Alberta is landlocked both ways so perhaps it is just better that it happens on our own terms. Given Canada's own lackadaisical policy towards our arctic sovereignty and American security concerns, it is plausible that the United States as a vested interest in partitioning Canada by turning the West into a friendly satellite state and take control of the far north to check Chinese and Russian ambitions.

In any case, Canada is fucked because some decaying fossils can't let go of their delusions.

While I'm disappointed that they will likely reach their goal, they had a MASSIVE signature collection system province wide. And more importantly, the signatures for the petition is the intent to vote, not the vote itself. the 300,000 or so signatures they need is only about 10% of registered Albertan voters, or roughly the number of voters who voted for NDP and the Liberals combined. It is extremely unlikely that the actual vote will succeed, possibly getting only 10-20% yes votes.

if they claim to have received 230,000 signatures over 94 days that's about 2,446 signatures a day, and there's only 25 days left which would be 61,000 signatures, leading to about 291,000 signatures to the 293,976 signatures required. It's going to be a very, very close call as to if they actually get all the signatures they need (there will likely be a mad rush in the last week that gets them over the edge). Considering that they will just barely make it I don't believe the actual vote will be successful. This should contrast to the leave petition, which will likely receive the required signatures within one month, possibly only a couple weeks or less.

Realistically the petition probably went something like this where the majority of signatures happened in the fist couple of weeks with a sharp drop off after that. In which case the petition is unlikely to achieve it's goal. If it does achieve it, there's going to be a number of signatures that get disqualified due to poor documentation or being repeated.
