So my personal library has run dry, and I decided too make the decision too visit my local library.

I've been going too the libraries since my youth, being able too find the "weird" books for my middle school age fairly easy, those being "The road", the author Darren Shan, and similar "safe-edgy for the time" reads.

Jesus H Christ was it ever depressing visiting in the modern day. ALL the books in the "Canadian history" section is just about native abuse, and how the hwhite man is bad (with a nice LGBTQIAP+BBQ row underneath)

So I decided, "huh might as well see how my past youth is" and the young adult section is a similar pain, no cool "demon" books mostly just books on "how I pozzed my neghole" or "my parents don't believe me" :(

Finally, I drug myself too the front desk, thankfully the front desk true and honest lady was very helpful in aiding me. So turns out most of the books I look for are now cached somewhere else, not too be put on display (authors such as Cormac McCarthy, PKD, and just general Canadian history.)

So I guess I have too start building a library for my future kids. Which isn't too bad, since I would enjoy reading "the happy man and his dump truck" as it was a certified hood classic

Where does one go, though? Especially a Worker ($) and not an Owner ($$$)

Western Europe is out; expensive and the browns flooding Germany, France, the UK, etc. are worse than ours. Maybe you can get a forklifting job in Eastern Europe, but lots of people there are leaving for the West which doesn't bode well. America has several advantages but also some major disadvantages (we have Jane-Finch, they have several entire nogtropolis cities). Russia/Ukraine are a no-go right now. Anyone that says 'I'm gonna go live like a king in Thailand/Colombia/Bali/Kenya' never comes across as serious to me. You're gonna flee a fading first-world country for an outright third-world one?
Have you considered MAID?

If you are willing to read e-books, most smaller community libraries have subscriptions to digital library services that can be quite useful to avoid the awful bricks & mortar pozzholed shitlib homeless experience.

There is some lunacy though in the fact that the digital book subscription services only allot each library so many e-copies, so it's possible for a book you desire to be unavailable and "out on loan", requiring you to wait for someone to return it online.

A lot of the apps simply require you to pick your local library and an active library card number.

Screen make brain hurt. Nice paper flippy and smell make happy brain

All that is required is no criminal record and proof you have $250k in the bank. Steep and that's to get into a place like fucking Mexico because even though its Mexico they actually still care and have standards about who they allow in unlike Canada.
That's only an escape plan for Upper middle class Shitlibs.

Unless you are plugged into a Jeet tier ethnic network where they pass the funds around from bank account to bank account to pass the government VISA checks.

Most people don't have $5,000 in liquid savings (before liquidating retirement accounts), let along 250K. Sure the average Joe could do Mexico or another Turd World shithole but they would be living a step above Ralph tier in Mexico.

I heard there are wild fires in Canada again. What the fuck is going on up there? They are talking about Canadian wild fire season. The smoke can be seen all the way down here on the East Coast of the US. I don't remember this shit happening in the past.

Canada needs to get it's shit together.

Used book stores. I picked up a hardcover of 'Gulag Archipelago' and 'Storm of Steel' for less money than a brand new Lisa Scottolini or WEB Griffin slopbook. I bought about 100 bucks of books there which is a big rubbermaid tote full. Also check for community or traveling book sales that happen in your area. If you can stand a little bit of wear and tear and that old-book-smell, you're golden.

I'm assuming your local library is like my local library, and the one in my hometown, and every other one I've been to: there's little quality shit to read yet the shelves are all half-empty for some reason. Of course they have a full section for the gay books that not a single young hand touches, and several rows of computers, even though by now even the homeless have cellphones with wifi. Indigo seems to be half knick-knacks and cookware by now and the other half is unreservedly chicklit. If you want anything decent to read you have to hit up the second hand market and online stores.

100%, I'm a "known local" too the local book-man, but I was more curious on how the structure of "libraries" have changed.

Bitching for the sake of bitching, I am

Wild fires are normal, and controlled burns will happen regularly.

What's not normal is California doing everything it can to prevent natural fires, allowing dead material to continually build up until massive uncontrollable deadly fires start.

Was talking to someone in the know.

Apparently they've been housing chugs from Manitoba in Niagara Falls, Ontario for weeks. And the tourism businesses are getting antsy because too much of the available hotel stock is being occupied by brokeass squaws rather than paying customers with disposable income.

Apparently there's a wide callout to all the indigenous NGOs to send humanitarian-style relief teams down to the Strip on the taxpayer's dime to go provide "cultural programming" to keep them occupied.

Only a handful were shifted to Niagara Falls, most are still housed on the prairies (although the government is pushing for them to be housed in hotels over shelters, which the hotel operators are pushing back on) Why they sent them there is total mystery as there's enough space to house them in-province.

Some of the fires are undoubtedly natural, it's been a very dry year across the north, but they've arrested two people in Saskatchewan for starting forest fires... expect that number to rise.

We arguably were before covid. It was still better to live in Canada pre-covid, than it was to live in, lets say Mexico, Spain, Bali, Vietnam, etc.

Why I say that is because the 9 million Indians that were suddenly dropped into the population during the pandemic is the catalyst for 2nd or 3rd world status.

I think Canada was a failing first world nation prior to Covid, an underdeveloped economy, overleveraged in various areas, with major real estate and hiring problems (but still a 1st world nation);

but for comparison- its reached the point where I unironically have a better standard of living in the 2nd world, than I do in Canada. I have faster doctor visits, my money goes further, my groceries go further, my rent is cheaper, etc. Even for the locals, they have better quality of life. Literally the average person in Indonesia of all places have better quality of life, and something to look forward to- their states seem to be progressing, not regressing. My salary isn't even that much higher than the average local's, but I'd literally rather live where I live because- well frankly I couldn't even afford the rent in my hometown in Canada anymore even if I tried.

Unless you are a boomer or one of the chosen techies (and even then your quality of life is decreasing), its literally easier to exist in the 2nd world at this point, than it is to exist in Canada.

The saddest part to me is seeing this happen within the span of essentially a decade. Life in 09, 10', the early 2010s wasn't so bad. Even up to the mid 2010s Canada was pretty chill, if rigged in some ways. Now? You're faster to get MAID or your dick chopped off than an MRI scan.

Disagree. The problems were becoming very apparent in the late 2000's. I was 18-19 entering the workforce in entry level employment and the immigration problem was already there it just wasn't very big yet and definitely in low wage sectors. South Asians and Indians were still the biggest pool of immigrants even back then at least in Ontario. the one thing I noticed about "them" though is they tended to come from supposed money back home by their standards and had some type of degree from India they couldn't use so they worked
In No Frills with us. Most people kind of will remember what I'm talking about who were around back then.

The cracks in the surface were very much there. It just hasn't arrived at anything close to our modern chaos.

Heard this from cabbies a lot from 2007-2015 when local cab companies were still a thing. I never got the impression they were lying. I wonder if a lot of the current problem could've been avoided by taking immigrants at their word re: credentials back when immigration wasn't used for wage suppression.

Was in the checkout line at a grocery store where the jeet cashier was being recruited by a leathery dyed blonde Gen Xer who started trying to headhunt him to join her working-from-home for the "federal government".

Because she was impressed with his game trying to sell her a Mastercard. She seemed concerned that he admitted to only making $17 dollars an hour & only 30 hours a week,. She interrogated him and he revealed that he personally makes $4 commission for new Mastercard sign-ups.

She bragged that she was making $34/hr, how she was full WFH, how the feds provide her with a smartphone and a laptop and all her stationery. How all you need is an Internet connection.

She asked him for a pen and wrote out some federal recruiting site. Said the feds were going to start massive hiring soon because 2026 is a census year.

Like I said, steep and all you are getting is Mexico at 250k. Certainly a fetish for strongly Catholic euro descended types to move to Mexico City so they can look down on Mexicans and anglos there while still engaging in traditional Catholicism.

It's "not bad" sort of, as long as nothing changes and nothing bad or Mexican happens to you there. More a matter of how bad Canada gets by comparison because it was laughable 10 years ago.

There's riksier but cheaper and easier parts of central and SA but they want you to be near retirement age ideally. The only cheap ticket out is marrying a foreigner who thinks they are marrying you to take advantage and news about Canada hasn't caught up to them yet.
