Canada is a failed state

Most people only learn through pain. They learn when a tiny raise bumps them up a tax bracket and they actually take home LESS money next year. They learn when their daughter gets groped by a potbellied jeet with a pornstash and bowl cut at a water park. They learn when Canadian-made groceries go up in price to match tariff'd American ones. You can only reach them when they have begun to learn on their own.
Tell me you don't know how taxes and tax brackets work without telling me you don't know how tax brackets work.

So, reading through Bill C-2 - don't recommend, it's dry as shit, I think my eyes glazed over from reading legalese - I'm not seeing anything that'd make posting on the Farms illegal, aside from doing something that'd require the Leaf Feds send Null a warrant for, which is a combination of "Good Luck, he's not a Leaf" and "Null will cooperate with Warrants", but at that point you're a special kind of fucktarded anyway, and mostly seems to apply to the Service Providers. It's at least worded like it'll be more focused on information pertaining to money laundering and smuggling rather than dealing with people shitposting. Yeah yeah give me rainbows

There's no limits to it, just any law passed by parliament suspected of being broken. Hate speech and hurt feelings are illegal in Canada making KiwiFarms illegal. Will Jersh out you, no but your subscriber info can be added to a list of dissidents. Its not limited to border security, anyone can use it anywhere at any time and without anyone knowing.

Liberal party continues to admire the CCP and first act is to start legislating themselves the same tools. Just saying, people should consider the hassle. Hope they only use it to go after boomers rage posting in the CBC comment section but hey who would have thought post 9/11 financial regulations would be used to debank Canadians for sending a few dollars to other Canadians suspected of planning to honk a horn in Ottawa without a single judge reviewing one single thing. And no legal recourse after.

Side note - any solid VPN recommendations? Better safe than sorry at this point. I may mostly use the site to shitpost about my interests being shit, but it'd suck to lose access to that.

Big two recurring favoties are Mullvad (Sweden, accepts cash in mail). ProtonVPN (Switzerland) has free servers however Proton took a black eye for revealing information about the UK art protestor/destroyers when that was a thing.

Welcome to šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street!

Vancouver’s newest street name is set to be the city’s first officially named in an alphabet other than English: šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street.

The new name, which comes from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language of the Musqueam First Nation, will replace Trutch Street on Vancouver’s West Side if city council approves a staff report at a meeting next week.

The report says the Musqueam First Nation has long advocated for removing the name of B.C.’s first lieutenant-governor, Joseph Trutch, from the street as a way to “acknowledge Trutch’s racist legacy, reduce the prominence of his name, and advance reconciliation efforts.”

Trutch denied the existence of Inidegnous rights and reduced the size of reserve lands, the city website says, and the politician is now “acknowledged as being openly racist and hostile to First Nation Peoples.”

In July 2021, Vancouver’s then-mayor Kennedy Stewart proposed removing the Trutch name and choosing another picked by the Musqueam chief and council, a move that was unanimously supported by council. In September 2022, the Musqueam Nation, or xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, provided the name “šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street,” which translated into English as “Musqueamview Street.”

Some Vancouver neighbourhoods, including Chinatown and the Punjabi Market, have street signs featuring other languages along with the official street name, such as Pender or Main Street. The difference in the new proposal would be that šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm will be the street’s sole official name.

“In accordance with xʷməθkʷəy̓əm wishes, the legal name of the street will be solely šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street, making this Vancouver’s first street named in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓,” the city report says. “With no fluent speakers left, this change is a landmark moment for the revitalization of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm language, weaving the display of hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ into the public fabric of city life.”

Trutch Street was named for Joseph Trutch, a 19th-century politician known for his racist views and poor treatment of First Nations.

Because this is the first Vancouver street named in an alphabet other than English, the city requested input from several entities, including the city’s legal department, Vancouver Police Department, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, B.C. Emergency Health Services, and others.

Emergency service providers raised concerns about “way-finding and ease of pronunciation for callers in distress on the street,” the report states. To address these concerns, city staff recommended posting two street signs on each post along the street, one with “šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm St.” and another below with “Musqueamview St.”

In 2022, the City of Victoria also changed all of its Trutch Street signs to Su’it Street, which means “truth” for the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.

If council approves the staff report next week, the new šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street signs are scheduled to be officially revealed at an event on June 20 at St. James Community Square.

Sometime last week I mentioned that I am distancing myself from the "Canadian" out of embarrassment on Facebook and my brother-in-law replied by saying how he didn't understand what I mean by that. The dude is about as much a leftist NPC without being and actual Marxist so I refrained from answering to keep the peace because my niece will be born soon. However, I need somewhere to collect my thoughts and you guys are the (un)lucky bastards that will hear it so without further ado.

"I regard the character of Canada 2025 as that of an insecure, immature, and ultimately melodramatic narcissist that turns every slight into a grave affront to its honor. Ironic, considering how dishonorable the ruling party has been over the last decade in its dealings. I respect a quiet strength that comes from a place a dignity and grace. If someone backhands our nation across the cheek I expect my fellow citizens, media, and government to retain composure and act like an adult. None of that happened in the last eight months since Trump's victory in November. What I witnessed was a meltdown I would expect from a toddler. Screaming proclamations ("Canada is not for sale") and simpleminded slogans ("Elbows up") for weeks on end is not a sign of strength. It is weakness. Trump milked it for every penny it was worth and played us for fools time and again.

"What truly aggravates me is how the Canadian establishments loves to brag how polite and civil Canadians are as if we long-suffering saints for tolerating our brutish neighbor to the south. The ugly truth is that we took advantage of our American brothers for decades now. First, to hide behind their military might as a shield and then to use our geographic closeness for a preferential trade relationship, making snide comments behind their back because we are passive-aggressive cowards that allowed ourselves to become lazy and complacent. If I had to define the Canadian ethos in one sentence it would be thus, "I have what I want and everyone else could go to hell." Trump's 51st state rhetoric should have been a moment for sober reflection, but the Canadian public chose to double down on our worst vices. We have forgotten nothing and we have learned nothing.

"Canada does not deserve the world's praise, it deserves its contempt and I want nothing to do with this flimsy charade."

No one is going to refer to it by it's actual name. Everyone will call it Native Street or something easier to pronounce and read.
was it necessary to butcher the alphabet that much? Every time a native actually wants people to use a word they use a spelling that people can actually at least guess how to pronounce.

No written language of their own, so they had to work with the government to shit something out to make them feel special.

You mean you don't see the easy "You're Racist for Not Using the Proper Name!" grift having groundwork laid?
They never intended for us to use the proper name. They chose a spelling that is unfamiliar and nobody knows the pronunciation rules, and made it too long even if it was pronounceable. They could've just called it Hmyzseklanímsvýmpánům Street and got the same effect.

Nice, a Hungarian-Swedish influenced sentence/gibberish.

You are dead on point, other than that: They are picking unpronounceable names to be as insufferable as possible.
