Buying a car is incredibly out of reach for most in India. It's not uncommon for an entire family of 10+ members to pitch in to a family car over there.
It really informs their tastes in cars. They generally like cars that are extemely cheap but have elements they feel are sophisticated (heated seats, alloy wheels, spoilers, etc) but aren't cars that could be used for farm work, so no wagons or SUVs. Work vehicles arent sophisticated. Sedans and coupes are.
The end result is that the jeet really, REALLY likes the Hyundai Elantra because it's ultra cheap and even the base and mid level trims are "fully loaded" for them
Its really embarrassing when they pull up to car meets in a stock elantra with Indian decals and a ebay spoiler/lip and park next to someones classic mustang or a neoclassic like a mr2.
Tldr jeets ruin everything, even car meets
