Our economy, like Australia's, is largely propped up by extracting resources and selling them. While labour is devalued its not low enough to enourage local fabrication outside of boutique businesses. High taxes sucks, but honestly I don't mind it when the social services they pay for are fast, numerous and quality. That's no longer the case, the value proposition hasn't been there for about 5-10 years.

If we stay the course it gets worse. If we radically change course things will get rapidly worse, but could get better down the line. Easiest thing Canada can do is invest in nuclear. If we get off fossil fuels for load level generation then we got more dino juice to sell, and it'll generate a fuckload of jobs. We should also be making nukes, no country big or small can hope to exist peacefully without a nuclear arsenal.

Quebec relies on tarrifs against other provinces, equalization payments, and their own national party in order to function.
