The only poll that matters: what % of Canadians still listen to and love Stan Rogers in 2025?
ME...
Also a certified Gordon Lightfoot enjoyer

The real question is how many Canadians still turn it up on the dancefloor to The Last Saskatchewan Pirate. People used to go crazy up on the dance floor out here for that song. The running debate is which version is better

:like:Post a thumbs up for the Original version

:agree:Agree for Captain Tractor version

Stan's fans deserve citizenship in the USA if this goes the way I think it will. Just like in his One Warm Line documentary, no matter how this bullshit goes, you can rise again. No matter how it's so over right now. Watch this and then check out the top YT comment for some quality feels.
@carolmusik: My dad was Robert Cusick, the man who sang this song to inspire him to live through that terrible night in the lifeboat. We lost him two weeks ago, and I sang this at his funeral. Thank you Stan for giving me an extra 30 years with him. I'm sure they're raising a jar together on the other side......

The man went out a hero trying to get people off that plane. Goddamn legend.

What do the queues look like in Brampton and counties (I refuse to call them ridings) running 'jeet candidates? I remember that some 'jeets crashed a website once because they all tried voting for a 'jeet Liberal candidate.

Where are you reading this? I believe you but I want proof so I'm not let down.
In Newfoundland riding where conservative flipped a seat, all the NDP votes went to Cons.

Also, LOL

Eh not really, our Senate isn't the same as the US given it's entirely appointed and is intended on acting as a chamber of "sober second thought" (no need to guess how well that works in practice). The lack of electoral legitimacy means the Senate isn't eager to rock the boat, and outside of the occasional grandstanding will quickly bend over and approve whatever Parliament passes - not doing so calls their cushy living into question, and calling it into question is one small step away from Senate reformation or abolition.
Ah interesting, thanks for the insight.
This has Trump 2016 and 2024 levels of doubt but I'm willing to concede gay ass rainbows though.
I hope your country makes it out alive. I pity the UK and Australia, and it’d be nice to see another country not get absolutely fucked over.

i wouldn't know because i would die if entering brampton without a full body hazmat suite

From what my grandparents told me from the maritimes there was pretty big turnout for advance voting. Took them 40 minutes waiting in line.

The Hippo's smile and optimism: gone

Hold up. And the natives allowed the 'jeets in? There's got to be something else going on. The locals probably won't tell you much, but if you've got a native on your crew maybe ask them to ask the actual locals about the jeets. Bizarre as shit. :stress:

C*nadian reeducation camp Kiwifarms meetup 2025!
In Africa jeets are the mercantile minority that are just smart enough to actually run businesses, giving them a massive economic advantage over the locals (until they draw the eyes of kleptocrats), maybe the same is true on the reserves.

When I was 13 or so living abroad I had a Canadian teacher at one point. I remember my old man met him once. Oh dad what did you think of this guy? - He's Canadian - he wakes up, thinks the sun shines out of his arse and that he's God's gift to mankind - all of them do. I don't like him.
Being 13-14..didn't get it.
I get it now. There is something so self-righteous about this country and its people by large. They have all the smugness of the Brits and the French but without the centuries of Imperialism and being a former world power to fuel that.
Canada was the British Empire's attack dog until the 50s, and politically founded by its loyalists, so no wonder we got the British smugness. After multiculturalism we put ourselves in the awkward position of inheriting the attitude of Brits abroad while pretending to be our own thing.
