This almost seems like a repeat of the Paul Martin years. Carney has taken over a badly wounded Liberal party and is trying to astroturf his way back to popularity.

Except that didn’t Chretian (with Martin as his finance minister) actually balance the budget. Remaining balanced for a year or two of Harper before it wasn’t balanced.

Paul Martin seemed like a decent accounting guy, it was just the Liberal party was in a death spiral when he took office and he had the charisma of a dead fish.

He was a classic political nemesis to Chretien. Like Churchill said 'The opposition occupies the benches in front of you, but the enemy sits behind you'. Just anodda Laurentian trust fund brat that "put his assets into a blind trust" while refusing to disclose how much business his shipping business did with the federal government. T-minus 63 days until we hear Carney's "blind trust" song and dance. But credit to Paul Martin he wasn't on his hands and knees sucking off the US President before even taking office while the entire Canadian media apparatus praised him in lock-step for being so tough.

It's hard to imagine a pre-Trudeau era where Canadian 20-somethings were all instructed to sew a Canadian flag on to their backpacks before traveling overseas to specifically differentiate themselves from those boorish hated American backpackers with a similar accent.

CBSA starts enforcing 25% tariff on cross-border Canadian grocery shoppers

Apparently the Canadian border guards have been instructed to pull over and search Canadians admitting they bought groceries in the US.

As I read it, this mostly affects same day travelers that don't qualify for the normal 24 & 48 hours personal exemptions.

ie. If you are abroad for >24 hours and stay within personal limits, tariffs don't apply. But same day border jumpers in frontier towns are fucked.

There's also the added chaos that the border guards are supposed to adjudicate tariffs based on country of origin, not nation of purchase.

So your sweatshop Bangladeshi t-shirt bought at Walmart is fine, but buying any groceries grown in the US of A get another 25% markup in addition to the awful currency exchange.

I mean hey, there's always weed, that's pretty Canadian too. Cheap as fuck if you're not getting absolutely lit every day, an eighth of the average OCS product can last a non-stoner for a month or more sometimes. I know weed culture is retarded but if you really need something to help chill out after work, maybe get a cheap dry herb vape and some flower. Just don't go full Cheech and Chong.

Weed, darts and booze can be great and all. But I think now more than ever would be the time to seriously shake a bad/costly habit. This is coming from an alcoholic-chronic weed smoker.
Sounds fucking nuts but nows the time to take on some of this stress and try to funnel it to something gainful.
It's my new goal this year. Just any attempt to save money rn might be important. At least that's how I'm feeling rn.

Putting the maple leaf on you backpack or suitcase worked when people respected out county, but Canada is a laughing stock of the world at this point.

I had a family member that was backpacking across New Zealand and he was hiking alongside a highway and a Maori bike gang passed him (for some reason NZ has a bunch of Maori bike gangs that terrorize certain areas in NZ) and they doubled back and they where going to mug him cuz they though he was one of those rich American's that pretend they are poor when the travel. He had a maple leaf on his backpack so they instead offered to take him to a bar for drinks and then drove him 20km to the next town.

Also fuck Canadian border agents, they don't care when people come here illegally and they are instead literally robbing Canadian citizens because we can't afford to "buy Canadian". Maybe I would buy Canadian if the government didn't take half of what I earned. I'm building up an American V8 engine to chuck in my car for when I am home and the only good parts are made in America. Maybe if the Canadian government hadn't killed our auto industry, or literally any other revenue source other than lumber and tourism more people might actually buy Canadian.

The point of my post was to show the tweet underneath the stats. Frank graves is the CEO of EKOS. If the CEO of the company has a bias against the Conservatives then they cannot be trusted to give honest data.
